would i be able to house a rhino pleco in a standard 55 gallon with bottom dwelling catfish, and no other plecos? and it live a long and happy life.

I would go for it, seeing as it is a peaceful fish, as long as it is wider than 12".

I have a Rhino in a 125 gal which is 18" wide, and he has a problem turning sometimes. I would not put one in a 48" X 12" or 13" tank.

Wow,must be big. My biggest was 13 inches(was in a 190).

To Op, I would not recommend it. If you must, he should be alone on the bottom with lots of open space (don't overcrowd with rocks, plants and other stuff), but still give him at least 1 hiding spot.

I have no idea how big he actually is. Here is a thread on AC from back in May. http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192917 and here are some pics of him from today.

He sure is sweet looking

alright no rhino pleco

Be careful of any Pterygoplichthys as they can all grow past 12 inches with ease.

A Hypostomus type would be better as most only get to 12 inches max.
