Oh yeah, 55g but depending which fish i would get i would upgrade accordingly, with the second choice, i would upgrade after a year, no questions. for the odo i would let him grow, they take a long time to grow big. for the CK and fire eel choice after like 2 years or something and the jags 1 year

Choice 1: would work for awhile
Choice 2: You would need to upgrade in a couple months and the midas will probably go on a killing spree.
Choice 3: You'll have to upgrade in less than a year, if you manage to find a pair.
Choice 4: You ever seen how large clown knifes grow? Cut the ck, pleco (which i assume is a common), an con and it would work for a year depended at which size you buy the eel.
I would personally recommend getting a single lone barred midas and upgrade him to a 125g once he reaches 8 inches.
Also, try to avoid all caps in the title.

But dont you think with so many fish he wouldnt be able to? Why no caps? against the rules?

I say buy the new tank first then decide, or else youre going to just have lots of problems and most likley losses.

With the Midas? Trust me he'll relentlessly beat anything to death. Especially in such a small tank.

Hey midas madness, lets put everything behind us, ok? And i appreciate advice, not criticism. And all the fish would be bought as babies, would this stock work better?
1 midas
2 red terrors
1 green terror
1 Flower horn

Id have to agree, all the options listed are going to get wayyy too big for a 55. Just suck it up, buy a 100 plus and then itll be so much better. 55 is wayy too cramped. I have 1/3 of that in a 90 and I feel as tho I could always use more.

FH, midas and 3 terrors in a 55? I mean if they are an inch thatd work, but look at the big picture, theres no way that that would work in a 55 for close to a yr. Midas and FH grow so fast, and depending on their personality can be wayy to aggressive for a community. Thats why many here have One FH or Midas per tank, solo. Good luck

The green terror would likely be killed. You would have to upgrade in 4-6 months to keep the give the fish appropriate space and keep aggression down. If you add 4 convicts (all male, you don't want a breeding pair) and maybe half dozen giant danios you could keep the aggression pretty low.

So we cool midas madness? What do you have in your tank? maybe a single odo would be a better alternative, than upgrade in a year to a 125g or something, than use the 55g for smaller cichlids

Were cool. :D The odo option sounds the best.

K great! HAH i cant make up my mind i really want a cichlid community. Maybe just get like the barred midas for now, than wait a while, upgrade and get the rest of the fish? but by that time the midas might be too territorial? thanks buddy

I highly suggest a lone midas. They have great personalities and have the glass banging aggression. You'll have to upgrade though when he reachs 6-8" depending on your filtration and water change schedule.

Ive written like 3 times and always agree with what others say. What are you going for? You do not seem to have any tanks for quarantine, injuries(which will happen), why not as suggested go with a single midas in a 55? That would be fine, awesome fish too and would get huge and be more than enough entertainment

Well maybe after you upgrade the Midas into his new tank you could buy a gt for the empty 55g. A gt could live in a 55g for life.

I think you need to do your research first. Every suggestion you made shows you dont know what you are doing.

I dont know why you guys are encouraging this guy to poorly stock his tank. His tank is only size enough for small cichilds. Or a single cichlid in the 7-9 inch range.

Tell your dad to look into a bigger tank. Red terrors grow to 20 inch range, females less. A single GT would be fine for the 55 gallon, but thats it.
I would love to see a 20" red terror.
If you want a group of cichlids, something peaceful like Gymnogeophagus would be a good choice.

Ive seen it. But they grow less on average, you're looking at females atleast a foot and males at 1 1/2 foot easy.

I never knew an odo was called black nasty?
I say do some more research, and think about what you really want. The aggressive community that you want isn't going to happen unless you have a huge tank, and even then it could be very difficult to find fish that will tolerate each other.
If you like jags, try looking into some of the other smaller parachromis, like rtm(red tiger motaguensis), or maybe a pair of grammodes.

If you and your father like greenterrors then one alone in the 55 gallon tank would be fine, I suggest going with that option.

Its a showdown between a gt and a midas, the midas seems like more of a "glass-banger"

If we are talking about a 55. Go with the gt.

I have a male jd in a 55 by himself and if I get near the tank mine will crash into the glass, break the heater, the hood, etc. He crashes into everything out of fear. Does your gt do that also? Or does he attack the glass because hes a badass? I wish my jd wasn't such a wuss

No,my GT is on the glass because he's aggressive. He runs his head into it with his gills flared, and mouth open, biting at the glass. He's bitten me before.

Gt's look amazing as they mature and are aggressive from what I hear. I want one in my 55 now.
