show pics of your himalaya :woot:
I am now not sure of its ID and am investigating its description. It could by Punctata or Stewarti they all look very simalar which is why they are unsure if Himalaya is a stewarti variant. Hope you like the pics. :)

My feeder Snake head :D
This time I intend to raise up one of these monsters. ;)
Here you go. Sorry about the crap pics and crap wallpaper behind the tank! As I said the light is very bad so you can't see the stunning blue colours on their bodies and fins. I'm moving house in a couple of weeks and they'll then be going in the heavily planted 4 footer they deserve.
Top pic is the pair, see the size difference. Next one is the male, and then the female. Just one more thing. This female killed another female that was originally with her. I have no idea if this means they are generally aggressive with one another or not as it is the first time I have kept this particular species. Hope that helps :)

repost-rip bleheri and spec assam
Wow ! Beautiful collection indeed. The barcas are amazing. Aurantimaculatas, very colorful. Now are these fish pretty much have the same attitude as the more common micropeltes? I can only hope the US would have an open mind about taking some species off the banned list".
We can only hope that these ones would become available again. Make me very jealous about you guys outside the US, getting these fish.

Just him now had load in the past at one point it was the only thing I kept just when I moved 3 years ago I sold them all shut down the fish keeping then had to start again then rebuilt the fish room properly this time but just went for the 180 the cube and the tropical pond. I used to breed Channa gachua that was going to be a thing to do again its not hard just time is always my problem.

i kept them at 5ft tank.
bout feeding, i feed them chicken chest... 3 - 4 times per week, its cheaper and less cost. but....i nvr fed them frozen food....

My li'l rainbow assasins...:)
Thats right , I got the ones from the UK, and yes it took a lot of time and money to get them here. They are the only pair in the world at the moment and I want to try to to breed these fish, and that is why I bought them. They are in a 520g at the moment, so if everything goes well they should breed!
ashdavid, you are a true MFK, and more. I am at a loss of words to describe the amazing feat you've accomplish. I hope you are keeping some kind of journal, or note taking in your brilliant mind on just observations. Do we even know if they are mouthbreeders, or livebearers? Hope one day I could have some of these >:)

yeah head shape is wrong for marulioides ,it can be best seen in the last pic , head is too angular behind the eyes and nose not quite blunt enough , although this is the species of marula that does look the closest to maruliodes

Just got back from the KLCC Aquarium in Kuala Lumpur, which has an impressive collection of giant snakeheads. I tried my best to snap some decent photos, but it was difficult, between the movement of the fish and my attempts to hold the camera dead still.

I met the ceo of the Aquarium, he told me that those fish were taken from our national zoo lake. They have to use divers to go in the lake(they are not baits fyo) and whole dead chickens to catch them.

I wonder why they are so rare? Is it because they aggresive or anything else like environment issue?

i think theyre hard to find in the wild.

they are rare in the wild and do not swim in the rivers so they do not get caught while netting for fish , they have to be caught by hand , they live in holes in the river bank that are made by birds and freshwater crabs , they sit with there heads pokeing out of the holes and ambush prey as it passes , tho find them you would have to manually check each hole both above and below the water line, it is said that the collector put his hand into the hole and brings out the fish ,sometimes there is two fish sharing the hole othertimes one. it is also said that the exact area they are found in is not very stable ,as in high tension war area , but iam not sure how true that is , it was certainly true of some areas of india where channa are found some years ago , but not sure if that still applies

when a fish is that hard to get hold of , then price is not really relivant people will pay big bucks for something very few other people have ,and there still is very few people with them , most of the ones in captivity belong to 3 or 4 people who have managed to get a few, and when it is as nice as barca then demand far outstrips supply.
just wait until channa amphibieus is re-descovered , i suspect the prices will be even higher than barca , and amphibeus is far more suited to aquariums size wize.
also some people pay massive amounts for top grade arowana and they are pretty commen compaired to a barca.
unfortunatly due to the price i will probably never own one, but we can all live it hope. and stare at the pictures of the guys who have been lucky enough to get some.

i dont understand what you mean.
any fish needs as much food as it should have.
which species are you talking about?
tropheus
11-28-2008, 8:31 AM
snakeheads range from 4" to 4ft so depends on what species you want , all are easy to keep as long as you follow some simple rules. i would suggest you look through the other stickys and see if there is one you like that you can cater for , there is a lot of information in both the channa keeping conditions and the channa information threads .
obviously a micropeltes will indeed consume a lot and req massive housing but on the other hand orientalis req very little food and quite small housing. there is a snakehead to suit most size tanks.

I started this Show your snakeheads here, and they where in a 180 ltr at my house, i had to give away them , so i had one left. Just becuase they got to big. I had a Channa maulius ( Bullseye Snakehead ) it became 43 cm in my 180 ltr, so i gave away the last one to the Aquarium zoo in Bergen ( Norway ) and visit it last week, it is now over 1 m and looks great :) Thanx to all who have shown there fish here :) Thanks from Norway :)

inch
Guys use the metric system ;-)

lol brucki , iam stuck in the past
yes 4 inches or 10-11cm , if you mean which fish only reaches this size then some localities of orientalis are said to not grow more than this. i think brucki may have a couple of diferant types of orientalis so may be able to clarify
