Most 6-8 inch plecos are the fancy ones... and they don't clean the glass.

A Bristlenose may be your best hope (@ 5inch max)

Also this slime coat sucking thing is overrated. As long as the pleco(s) are well fed (not expected to algae alone). They will not suck on other fish.

the only real way to clean the glass is to do it yourself.
some pleco's might clean a bit, but even bristlenoses can become lazy when mature so you cant rely on any fish to clean the glass

I think "aros, gars, bichirs" would eat bristlenose or rubbernose.

DIY is the way to go.

theres no such thing as cleaning glass plecos

I don't see them having a rag, safe glass cleaner, platform and uniform ready to do your bidding.

Go for a common sailfin!
very hardy but will grow big.
they do a very good job and cleaning but dont only clean glass..
if you want good glass cleaners get algae eaters

to the guy whos asking the question go over to planetcatfish.com and they got a great list of plecos you can do a size search on that site and go over pictures realllllly fast to see what you like and dont like.

not always- the cichlids are evil with fins/tails causing a pleco's demise- thats where their weakness is-

thats why i never recomend most cichlid with plecos especially africans even my west african dwarf cichlid torn my L066 fins/tail- they're terrors in the tank

I still think they rock!

actually.. there is one type of pleco that will go all around the tank and clean..

I have a giant 10" chocolate pleco.. i do feed it cucumbers with my royal plecos.. but somehow.. my chocolate prefers the algae off the glass... so ya..

try chocolate

dude.. i give my pleco 1 full 6" cucumber every 3 days, and still my chocolate would rather go for glass...

I have seen it eat Potato.. but during weeks where i dont have potato, it will choose to eat that.. But he does like hikari algae walfers..

So Hao, if you want a pleco to look at.. i recommend the Albino common or a chocolate pleco.. but if u want exotics.. you'll have to feed them carefully, like cucumbers, potato, melons.. or wood. if they are panaque species..

no worries there- Pterygoplichthys scrophus is a great choice and a match for the fish list though- (thats your chocolate) I was only being sarcastic with the noob to start with to ask for alage cleaning glass fish and expect some magical things to happen as I hear this question day in and day out.

To be plainly clear there is really NO such pleco species that exist yet that will conquer all kinds of alage.

there are certain alage plecos of any kind or different sp alage or different sp. plecs wont go near. Your alage might be what it really likes. for your info- BN's wont go near several types of alage I got going in my tanks right now after years and years of being efficent alage cleaning crew its because I had the right types before and now I got different types now thats an example.

btw I just found out a cool food they like sqaush- its in season now my guys love it.

That defeats the Op's size limit, plus yours is not fully grown as the Chocolate can still grow another 3-5 inches with ease

It depends on what he's gonna get.. but plecos take forever to grow.. plz hao has a big enough tank to fill in a good size pleco..
