Ya no kidding. The price is nuts for that thing. Weird thing to me is that the bigger model, with twice the capacity is only 60 dollars more. Seems like there is no real reason to buy the g3 at all.

wow. $440 when the FX5 retails new for $350..

something tells me these filters won't exactly be flying off the shelves...

hmmm. let's see how long it takes to get them on ebay and if there will be better deals on ebay for the fluval g series. $440 and $500 is just too much for such a filter. i think fluval might just be pricing itself right out of the market. i'm a fx5 and 404 owner, but we all have our limits.

They're listing may simply be showing the MSRP. They don't have any in stock. Hopefully, when they do get them in, they'll price them more affordably.

With the intro is the price reductions on the other Hagen filters... the FX5 is now at $299... and 405 at $199 - and I've actually been thinking maybe it's time to get another canister...!

i bet over a couple years the price will drop to a semi affordable range. hagen needs to earn back all they have spent on the engineering.

WTF!!! I was looking forward into the new G seriers I thought it would have been able to filter at least 300 gallons especially at that price! My fluval 405 filters 100 gallons with the price of $110. Damit now I rather go out and buy the fx5

holy fishpoop! 500 bucks just to tell me when my filters need changing? I'll keep the notepad and pen functionality for 2 bucks instead.

The same people that are serious enough about fishkeeping to buy one are also knowledgable enough to know there are much cheaper options. I don't see them selling many of these.

I don't think cheaper is the right word.

there are better options that also happen to be cheaper..

so its a win win.

I just picked up a G6 and will be putting it through its pace's
I'll let you know how much value there is in the product. So far I'm impressed, I'll have to admit.

My G-6 is up and running on a 65 gallon tank which from the amount of flow would seem a good fit although the filter is rated for a 160 gallon tank. It was very simple to set up and is clearly very well made.
Fluval still has those complicated hose clips for the tank which seem like a lot of waisted money on plastic in my opinion (I'm a bulkhead kind of guy). Th eHydrotech processor is excellant and very easy to set up.
