sorry i didnt see your post.

personally i like Cichla monoculus because of their pointy shape and flawless colors..

Ocellaris are almost the same though but slightly different.. Both are commonly found at LFSs.

Those look like Ocellaris but they are showing stressed colorations...

what else do you need to know about cichla?

I have only kept Peacock Bass two times so I have very little experince with them. The species of Peacock Bass I see most in LFS are Ocellaris and they sale for at least $35.00 for a 3-4" specimen here.

just becuase you didnt get a instant response doesnt mean the site is lame . it means this site is jkust starting out and not everyone has had peacock bass yet. But peacock bass can answer any ?s about them he has had bunch of them i beleve he even got them to breed

I still keep getting confused which is ocelaris and which is Monos. But I can tell Temensis easily :P

the problem with peacock bass, is that most of the small ones you see available are USUALLY imported from Asia and CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, they have sometimes been hybridizing the Monos and the Ocelaris.

my favorite is the blue peacock bass called something like Cichla azul or something like that, but you won't see them in fish stores. The most common are monoculus and ocellaris. There have been a lot of temensis entering the hobby lately, but most of them are not wild....although most monos and ocellaris you find in fish stores aren't either. Here are some of the different species to help you out.

hahahaha, I don't feel bad at all for you! I have another year to wait! I have already been, so every day I think about what I am missing out on. Canals filled with pbass and uros and oscars.....it's a wonderland. I could be out fishing every day after work, instead I'm stuck in Mass. where it will drop down into the 40-50 degree range tomorrow!

Damn I can't wait. I need to hit the lakes here soon. the open last day of April and Crayfish season opens May 1 :D

You kidding me? I'm taking most of what I catch. :D

BTW if you want a camera that takes long movies, I am not sure but I think Sony Cameras are the only ones that will record a video up to the capacity of the memory stick. Most other digital camera only take a 30 sec or 1 min video.

good stuff! I have a Sony DSC-F828 and you can take movies on that for as long as you can as long as you can fit it onto the memory stick. I plan on using that feature extensively in my upcoming trip to Puerto Vallarta where I will be doing some Roosterfishing and next year on the Miami trip.

If you plan on doing that I highly suggest one of these if you dont have a laptop:

http://www.kanguru.com/mediaxchange.html

What is is it like a portable harddrive that transfers all you data from the media to the drive so you can always keep filling it up and downdloading it to this device. Great tool if you like taking lots of huge video files that fill up the Memory stick.

Yea, I had been looking at those lately, but I don't think I'll end up needing it. The videos I plan on taking won't be that long and they actually don't take up that much space on the memory stick. I think with the 256mb memory stick and the 1gb stick I should be all set. Who knows though, 2 weeks in Mexico could probably stretch that pretty thin. ;)

I do not understand as to why anyone would ever want a peacock, largemouth, small mouth, gar, walleye or any kind of game fish as a pet. I do not care how big of a tank you have, unless you have a pond, putting any of these "bass" in a home aquarium is a horrible idea. They are too aggressive, too big and too ugly to be placed in a home aquarium. Plus any bass that is placed in a home aquarium, will be over stressed and will most likely die within a short period of time. Not to mention, these fish are extremely territorial so why would you want only one fish in a huge tank by itself.

Peanut_Power
07-23-2005, 3:41 AM
Uh huh...is that why there are so many members that are successfully keepin and some even possibly breedin these fish? Perhaps you should be a little more openminded about things. There are A LOT of VERY dedicated owners out there who provide nothing but the best and most optimal of conditions for their fish. Your view point kinda annoys me to be honest." They are too aggressive, too big and too ugly to be placed in a home aquarium"....if words were edible i would ask you to eat these! Not only are these fish beautiful, most of them aren't that aggressive. Pbass are actually more laid back and non territorial compared to most other cichlids, especially when compared to cichlids their size. If I were to adopt your logic of thinkin, then I wouldn't be able to keep Red Terrors because they get to big, and are extremely aggressive...and have to be kept to a tank by themselves...thus are wasting tank space. Oscars are too large, and can be rather territorial at times. Jaguar cichlids are too big and aggressive. The list goes on and on....perhaps I am just a little bit defensive about the fish I love when someone just comes in and bashes them. I have to disagree with you though.

I'm going to qoute Phil here: "This is what happens when they don't require IQ tests before allowing one to use a computer." And, peacocks do very well in captivity, I don't where you're drawing info from - but it's wrong. And if you're calling peacocks ugly, then it's obvious to me that you've never seen one. Now, calling gars ugly? What a despicable thing to say! I have a feeling that a good number of other MFK members will have some choice words for you as well...
