I have a pumpkin seed in a 35 gallon, with nothing else with it right now... What are some types in keeping them and what are some good tankmates for it?

If you had a larger tank I would suggest a bullhead of some sort, perch or perhaps some more sunfish. Some large cyprinids like creek chubs or golden shiners would work, perhaps a member of the sucker family like a hogsucker or white sucker. Sadly, you don't really have a very large tank for the pumpkinseed for the duration of it's life. Should be alright for awhile but I would suggest something along the lines of a 55g.

I just got my pumpkinseed Lepomis gibbosus on Monday and is in a 10g tank with a johnny darter Etheostoma nigrum (it ate my juvanile Ameca splendas). It will soon go into a 150g tank with some more L. gibbosus, a redfin pickerel Esox americanus americanus, and a pleco Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps.

You definately dont need a heater, so dont worry about that, and they will eat almost anything they can fit in there mouths (small minnows, worms, baby crawdads, aquatic bugs, brine shrimp, etc). Also be sure to keep some good hiding places for it, like plants and sturdy rock ledges and caves.
