My first post - glad to be aboard.
I've had a 75g brackish tank for about 6 yrs (& 30 gal 3 yrs prior), which at it's heyday had 2 monos, 1 red, 2 silver, and 2 green scats, all about 3-5" long, all many years old, and all healthy (until I totally neglected the tank for 2 whole years). I fed them only every other day once they reached that size (all were bought small), sometimes even less. The columbian shark cat did, however, get to 10" (he's about 9 years old now). Now, after getting back on top of things, it's just the shark, 1 jade goby, and a school of 5 monos (4 new and 1 old one).
My question is, while I've read many posts about scats and monos getting to be dinner-plate size, is this necessarilly an issue if you feed them modestly. For now, I've been feeding 1xday, 6d/wk to get the little monos up to speed. Also, to what degree does tank size matter. When the shark was in my 30g, he stopped at 5". When i put him in the new 75g, he just grew explosively.
