Heres my new ornate. I already got it at a nice size ( 1 foot ) so that it could go with the rays. Heres a pic.
BTW, That goldfish is a monster at 8 inches so it makes the ornate small. Dont be fooled.

ornates are my favorite bichirs along with endlicheris :cheers:

DirtyDan - I just got it so i havent really fed it yet. LOL.. but i am thawing some shrimps right now to pump it up some more.
Kido - Thanks pareko ! I know ornates have interesting patterns and they also get
monstrous so theyre one of my favorites .. im lucky to get one this size.. theyre not that common at my area.

how fast can these guys grow if they get plenty of food.. I have around 6-7 " right now
He only comes out when food is around.
the sengal is always out

You should get that growth if you pump it right from 6 mos upwards.
Senegals are very active. This ornate is active too. . . depends on the individual species sometimes.

urs might be active only cuz its new to the tank... maybe in a few weeks, it'll resume Dead Log status.

my personal view is ornate is quite shy and slow growing birchir. after they settle down, they tend to jus hide in 1 corner and wait for it's prey. the growth rate seems to be slower than other birchir too.

You could be right. I guess well have to give it time dont we?
But i really doubt it could be a "Dead Log" since i still have 2 rays
in there that will force it to move :)
