on a planted tank w/ diy co2, what tests do you have to do? and what are the numbers for? kinda an explination...can anyone help?

Howdy,
The right CO2 level is determined by your kH and your pH values. The optimal value can be found in an according table. Since I do not know your water parameters, I cannot give any recommendation. You can find those tables with a Google search "kH, pH, CO2" and look up the perfect CO2 level for your tank.

It also helps to monitor nitrate, phosphate and iron if you're into plant-keeping.
