it all depends on the fish or the size i want...if its small than i use a net so i can raise it or if its big and i need it to control a population of fish in another tank (fisher12889 knows whats that about) than i use a pole

I have had the best luck with a rod, using small flys (small streamers like woolly buggers, in about a size 12, work good for bass, crappie, and other fish with bigger mouths. For Bluegill and other fish w/ smaller mouths, use small dry flys and nymphs, sizes 12-20) I also use nets and throw nets if the fishing method doesnt work.

What about minnow traps are they pretty good for catching juvenile fish? Any one have picture's of the type of minnow trap they use .And how good they work? I have seen several types posted .

I used to have a crawdad trap I made that I would sometimes catch small sunfish in. I have a minnow trap, but I havent really used it much, and Ive only caught fathead minnows in it.

I think the flyrod is probably the funnest method

bass and fishers methods only really apply for sunfish species
i prefer to put out a trap in the morning, and use a dipnet if im alone, seine if theres two or more, then collect the trap b4 i go home, this way, you catch more species than just the net
leave out a trap overnight, but use green rope, and tie it to an easily found branch underwater, somehow my traps turn out mangled and empty in the morning if i dont do this:cry:

We use seines and dipnets primarily. Again, it all depends on the conditions, what fish you are looking for and how many people you have. A sturdy dipnet with a relatively small mesh works great for working vegetation on swampy situations. Seines work great for minnows and for kicking up fish off of the bottom of streams.

Seines if I'm with others and a dipnet if I am alone. Electro shock fishing is also fun but not something a lot of people get to do.

I yous minnow traps for smaller fish and barb-less hooks for ones that are to big for the trap.
