My turtle likes to grab large fish fins, get a ride around the aquarium for 5 minutes and chew off a lil slimey chunka fin, great entertainment for the whole family.
That turtles gonna chomp onto somethings eye pretty soon. Got a basking spot?:)
isnt that guna completely stress the fish out?

thats awesome... so what if he makes a meal out of him.. i use to feed my ps bluegill all the time... whats the diff between feeding blues or sunnys to ps or turtles or using them for bait for northerns and musky.. fishermen do that all the time. im mostly curious about the basking spot.. ill get a turtle for my tank if there is a turtle species out there that doesnt require land. i watched a amazon show and they talked about how ps eat fishes fins all the time and it doesnt bother the fish because there is no feeling in the fin area and it regenerates.. the only thing stressing the fish out is pulling twice its weight around the tank..

First off, big fish eats little fish, reptile eats big fish, mamal eats reptile...or something like that, anyway get off your PETA soapbox, yea he probly will eat a few, ive had him for about 2 and a half years, he only hunts when hes hungy, when i see him hunting i give him turtle food.
As for basking he sits on a white plastic support right under the light, he loves it there, you can see him in some of the pics through the glass top of the aquarium, the last pic is of the support from under neath, hes sitting on top.
Its fun to watch him hunt, hes slow clumsy and extremely bad at it. The fish he attacked had no fin damage, no chunks missing, it didnt even seem to that concerned with it, just annoyed that he couldnt swim well.

You don't have to get defensive...this is after all a FISHkeeping website, we keep fish and try (most of us) to provide them with decent healthy homes. Though the pictures are cute and it was probably fun to watch I also worry about the long term safety of those fish. If your gonig to keep them as pets, treat them like pets.

thats nature, when the animal has a way to escape
it goes in the ****ter when the animal has no escape and its fate is controlled by a person who is subjecting the fish to this for his/her own pleasure.
that turtle shouldnt be eating fish anyways, what kinda turtle is it? ill read up on what it should be eating.
btw fish is ok, but a constant diet of fish is not good. :headshake

:clap You said it man! Don't get me wrong, I love my fish and do everything I can to make them happy, but a fish is a fish, just like a dog is a dog and a cat is a cat. I keep fish as well as kill and eat them:drool: so I don't understand how some people will treat there fish (or other pets for that matter) better then they treat themselves.:screwy: That being said, I don't condone animal abuse of any kind.

Reminds of a time I was cleaning up my turtle tank. If you ever get a funny lil' feeling that your turtle is about to bite you, he probably is. He's just a Red Earded Slider, but man that hurt.

Judging by the color of the lamp, i'd say you dont have an ultraviolet. If you do, i aplogise, but your turtle needs a UVB lamp to bask under. A slider or painted needs atleast 5% UVB to get proper synthesis of vitamin D£ for calcium absorbation. UVA lamps are not needed, but UVB lighting usually come with around 30%UVA anyway.

I agree with the above post. Without UVB, they cannot process D3, or calcium. This can lead to shell rot. He looks healthy in the picture though. I wish you fish good luck, and wish the turtle happy hunting :woot:
