south american lungfish and australian lungfish, yes.

any of the african lungfish, no.

so your best bet is a south american, which is quite easy to find (check with some of the sponsors here). aussie is much harder to come by (only one authorized breeder in the world, and a minimum order quantity) hence very expensive, even if you find someone in the US willing to sell theirs.

Africans are unpredictable, one day things are great, next day looks like fish exploded like pop corn in the tank. So i never recomend keeping africans with any fish that you might possible not consider a feeder fish.

Never worked with SALs as of yet, but i would think that my Aussie would do fine with them since its living with other fish. But i have very careful with what i put in there since i'm more worried about the AUL getting injured (literally have a fillet knife next to the tank for the first fish that acts up).

PS i hope to get a SAL eventually...just got a dolli neat little beggar.

Newbie Alert:
Is this an African?
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y200/meakofrombidshot/puppies/FirstPixofArow057.jpg

It is around 8-9 inches.

I have a 15 inch Green Asian Arow

My question is: Is there a danger to the Aro?

I have had this tank arrangement for around 2 weeks now and have not seen any aggression for either one to each other even if the Lungfish is grabbing some of the live feeders from the picky eating aro.

Any advise from the Monsterkeeping gurus?

yes thats an african. looks like an annectens.

at the current size of the two fish, i think the aro should be safe. But as the african grows, it'll get harder to say. eventually i would separate the two.

I have to agree on him, coz when a lungfish grows they become more agressive.

as infblue stated, and i have done so with several people asking similar questions, african lungfishes should not be kept with any tankmates you do not want to risk losing. they are just too unpredictable. early on i kept africans with a variety of tankmates, with a random preference they got along with some fishes and hated/attacked/ate others.

that african will eventually become much larger (should grow faster than the arow at that stage) and will eventually pose a major threat to that fish. if you want a good lungfish for other tankmates go with a SAmerican. there are always exceptions to the 'rules' with any larger predatory fishes, but in general it is NOT a good idea to keep African lungfishes with any tankmates (i've kept all 4 species of Africans, and also talked to other lungfish keepers/observed other specimens-setups...this is generally the case across the board).

good luck, and let us know if you have further questions!--
