ok so my LFS has a serrasalmus manueli and its about 4" of fish for 60 bux i know its not a common fish and that its the largest piranha species. it will THRIVE in my 30 gal till its huge enough for me to buy it a bigger tank. dose anyone know anything i should know before purchasing this fish. :grinyes:
manuelis are my favorite piranha species so if i were you i'd buy it in a heartbeat .. if only we had some available here i would love keep one.. they have really nice coloration although i've heard their greenish color would fade with age.. but their face turn more red though as they become adults :)
they do grow big but as with other serrasaimus species grow rates are slow so you will have a lot of time to prepare for a huge tank for him :)
Buy it, care for it like a niger, you have time, maybe 2 years before it outgrows your tank, they live at least 10-12 years and yours is probably 9-12 mo's.

Manuelli are the largest of piranha. You'll probably need a tank larger than a 30 soon.

Make sure he has plenty of cover to hide and keep the lights low for the first few days.
