I've always had this nagging question. why are there no programs on tv about fishkeeping? i mean, i love fishes and i love tv. but channels dont seem to care. they got more than a dozen programs handling cats and dogs, i mean come on! it irritates me when they say that there are either dog people or cat people, hello? what about fish people!!!???? i've seen programs which featured aros and gigas before but they are few and far in between, especially on asian aros. i've written about this to the discovery channel's animal planet but no response yet......:swear:
i duno if id be overly interested unless it was like from a zoo or something. i prefer to watch documentaries on the fish in the wild

that would also be really nice. what i mean is there are just so much on dogs, cats, even fowls and birds that it seems really unfair for aquarium hobbyists like us.
for all those of us in asia, this is the address to which i requested:

maybe if more would write, preferential attention would be given. Support the MOnster Movement! :headbang2

theres a canadian petshop show on tv id think at least weekly. cant remember the name but real basic info regarding all sorts of creatures.
a show profiling how our favorite home tank monsters live in the wild would make for some good docs.

I tuned in to a documentary last night on discovery channel about the big bad creatures from the Amazon river, so I was waiting for an aro to show. It has anacondas, and a cayman getting attacked by an electric eel, then went into the electric eel wow! wish I could post a video of that, unbelievable. and NO ARO ever mentioned. We are legends in our own minds. So anyway, my Mom's a librarian and those DVD's and Videos can be requested by you at your library and most libraries will search and do an interlibrary loan even up to the library of congress. Should be free. Ask for the reference librarian. Mom knows more about where to find the answer to anything or has the research at her fingertips. You can go in and sit down at a inner library computer and search ond order yourself, even from home if you get the link. If the material is good, copy the isbn# and then you can order it online.

saw something in discovery once, about silvers and arapaimas. i think it was Equator, on animal planet. but that was it, nothin else
I am always checking TV for fish programs, I even watch out for the on demand home and garden and DIY channels because they have shows on building ponds and hobbies sometimes. Discovery,Animal Planet, National Geographic have shows on sharks a lot and I saw the Amazon river and Great barrier reef shows recently, The best bet is to try the library like suggested earlier, or go to the video store , Best buy has lots of Fish DVDs too. I really hate to say this but if we really think the overall population will ever care about fish as much as warm fuzzy puppies we are dilusional, :( , I am dying to go check out a fish show on IMAX!!! :WHOA:

Just found this thread and I'd like to hear more from you all regarding "Fish TV".
I work in the Film & TV industry over here in the UK, and I've been thinking about something like this for the past few months.
Post your suggestions for me to read, I think it's high time there was a show like this. It's new, original and i'm sure it would sell.
(Unfortunately, that's the only way programmes get made in the first place!)
In fact "Monster Fish Keepers" would be a great regular feature on a show like that - just think, all YOUR fish on TV? Where better to find material for a show like that than from all you guys?!

then you'll know more about who you're talking to!

probably something about species introduction, discussion and expert advice on upkeep. then as the show goes on, more advanced fishes and methods on the hobby might be discussed. you can ask aquarium supply manufacturers to introduce some new and innovative products out in the market or even those soon to be released- from filters to fish food. then maybe have a few guestings of well known ichtyologists and fish breeders. have some trips at various tropical fish farm and LFS visits and interview the owners. and on special occasions, have expert hobbyists like many here on MFk to tell more on their hobby and their love of fishkeeping.....a lot more can be added to spice things up

Hi Kritzu
There was a show made here in the UK about 20 years ago -I used to watch it!- called "Fancy Fish" I think, and recently I've been wondering why there couldn't be a new one. I'm really interested in showing where the fish for our "hobby" (lifestyle?!!) come from. When you are sitting in your house in Scotland, it's freezing cold outside and pissing down with rain, it's really hard to imagine outdoor ponds and tanks full of tropical fish on a fish farm in Singapore, or catching wild Platys by hand in a Central American stream! Or watching wild Arowana catch their dinner in the Amazon basin!
Thats the sort of thing that would get the imagination going. Could be an expensive part of the show to shoot though!! Keep posting ideas - maybe we should move this thread to General Forums and get input from everyone.

I did a search for "fish" on the TIVO, and I found a show called "Hunt for Big Fish"
Its a fishing show but they catch MF. The two shows it recorded so far was a two-part show on Wolf fish. In the intro they show them catching Cichla, TSN, RTC, i think i saw arapaima.
If your into fishing or even if your not, check it out. I got a season pass for this show now.

im from the Philippines bro. there was also a show about two or three years ago, a weekly aquarium hobby show in the Asia News Channel, i think from Singapore called " Fins n Tail". sadly, they stopped after a few seasons. the topics were really cool, Arowanas of all varieties, cichlids, flower horns, rays....really enjoyed watching the show. plus DIY projects on tanks, filters, food preps. thats why i started this thread, wishing for shows like that which really helps hobbyists and entertaining too :woot:

I've always had the idea of turning an old T.V. into a tank . It would be great to open the cabinet and have a big Plec. sucking on the screen.
