After he has been in the tank for the night he is not scared as much and let me snap some pictures without hidding. So does that look like wounds or a parasites or something else?

I just picked him up yesterday, he was being picked on in the tank... but I do not trust the LFS to tell me the truth. I also do not think he ate for some time.

I used some salt on the tank over night and in the morning I went to pick up some guppies for him. I do not plan on making live food his staple diet but I do not think its time to train him to eat whatever I give him using the whole starvation method. He ate right as I dropped them in.

Also going to raise the temp to 85F, raised it from 79-80F to 82F and will raise it to 85F by evening today.

Also I am more interested if anyone can ID what happened to him then suggestions on what to do, they are welcome as well... just IDing is the priority. ;)

He (Dat is about 4") is being in a 55 gallon right now, sharing it with a larger Red Devil (6-7") and a small Convict (Convict is like 1.5"). Once his stuff heals up he'll be moved to 75... until he will outgrow that.

No the Red Devil is not bothering him nor the Convict! Which is weird because the Devil has managed to kill a Black Belt and a Flowerhorn of his size, and just last week I had to remove a Jack Dempsey that Ive tried to keep with him because it looked like he was going to kill it if I left it there. He seems to like the Convict, not one scratch on him! And he did not even care when I dropped the Dat in there. :22_yikes:

I have tried that when introducing the Jack Dempsey. But as far as Blackbelt and a Flowerhorn go, I got all three fish at the same time when all of them were about an inch long.

Looks more like bruising than anything else, You say he was being picked on? Other fish can leave marks like that and fish sometimes injure themselves against tank decor while getting away from bullies. The bruising and scales damage tends to look worse on 2nd day. Careless netting/handling at the lfs can do it to. you are already doing the heat and salt routine which is good, if it is just bruising the thing to watch for is a fungus infection and the salt will lessen the chances of that. Barring fungus the patches should start clearing up in a couple of days but might leave a disarrayed scale pattern. I've had this happen to scats and large angels.

Quarantine is the best way to isolate the problem time and time again I say its very important that you do especially a fish from the LFS and it was beaten up? IF you dont have a 10 gallon tank to spare just buy a rubermaid bin around that size. Seriously you dont want to make a bad habit into a bad incident.
