Sand and coraline algea

I unfortunatley have very very fine live sand in my tank. The sand gets blown around a little and it gets on the rock. Will that sand cover reduce the ability for the coraline algea to grow? Thanks

Eventually the "sand" dissolves, and sometimes kinda melts together to form larger clumps which are not so easily blown around. The "sand" will actually boost corraline growth. Yes we all want the corraline growth, but for some it is a bane as well, it does eventually grow too well, and you will dull many scrapers parting ways with it.

Ok, thanks. I just dont like all the sand on the rock because it make s the rock look dirty. I do need a more coarse sand though.

Go to petsmart, they have a bag of dead sand, actually crushed coral, it has a good grain size, and all the smaller grain sizes wil fall below it, just give it a good mix up. The bag is about 15 bucks so its all good.

Actually I think Im going to my lfs and getting some of his live sand and dump this fine crap or put the fine sand in my brackish tank.

Whatever works for you, I have a 5 gallon bucket full of live sand, going to make a 29 gal brackish myself. Grow out mollies for feeders. Great for the lion:ROFL:
