Least Favorite Fish

Since we have a most prized fish thread, i think its only natural to make a list
about fish that we like the least.

Tiger Barbs are on the top ten. My neighbor used to have a big tank with nothing
but tiger barbs. I think it traumatized me somewhat :mad:

I also dont care for Plecos and Oscars with long fancy tails.

Lastly, dont like any fish that is dyed.

Ill add to the list when i think of something else. Its really hard... i love all fish in general.

I dislike Oscars, Bala Sharks, Goldfish (basically all of them), and Parrot Cichlid (that hybrid).. those are the ones that came to mind first.

200g tank with a 9" Texas cichlid, and my dad went out and follishly bought a 2" $20 yellow-dyed parrot. The texas said "Oh, volleyball!". My dad cursed and snarled, I applauded and told him never to go near my ****ing tanks ever again.

200g tank with various 1"-4" juvenile cichlids, both americans and africans. I throw in a $5 wal-mart oranda goldfish. That fat ugly goldfish got torn apart in a most spectacular fashion within just 20 minutes. And then, I took the goldfish's shredded remains back to wal-mart and got a refund. I actually made a very-detailed thread on this issue on another forum, ill get around to looking for it when I get a chance.

My huge albino ferret some how snuck into the guinea pig cage while we where out...

we came home and found him digging and scratching his way into the gunieas skull...

brains and blood EVERYWHERE...

Mr.Albinos entire head was soaked in blood...

and the guniea was squealing like crazy...

I took the guniea to the vet and had him put down... :(

Personally, I would probably have to do a totally aquascaped "Amazon" bio-tope tank setup, w/ a good-sized shoal of P's (Pygos) to enjoy keeping Pirahnas. :headbang2: With that 'visual' in mind, is what gives me a totally different perspective of 'P' keeping. :idea: Perhaps, someday i will?!! :grinyes:

I agree dyeing fish is just wrong. I mean if you can't enjoy a fish's natural beauty you just shouldn't keep them. Not only that but the dyeing process decreases thier life expectancy by a long time. So sad.

Chinese algae eaters, little buggers dont clean worth a crap and get agressive later on. I used to use them as feeders when i worked at wal mart and the feeders didnt show on time. I have little to no use for them outside of that. :)

I just ment to say that making fish breed with eatchother in a way that would not occour in the wild, is in my opinion not correct, especcially the kinds witch have problems living. These fish are "made" in a way that they can't swim properly and sometimes can not even eat normal! I only dislike that kind of fish, like some sort of goldfish and blood parrots ( :cry: )

Ik just think that the nature has provided us with enough beautiful fish, and that we don't need to cross breed. :D

i hate sev's.
i was given loads free plus some other crappy fish and i stuck them in my main tank when i had my green aro,gar and rays etc.
the big fish eat most of them except the sev's which stayed behind my filter for ages so when i set up another 18 tanks i used them to cycle the tanks.
there still alive and to date had killed some of my fish i lost a 7'' juruence and a 4'' wild silver aro to the little twats as they were the only fish i could house them with they bullied them to death in one night.
i have been using some as dithers for my p-bass and my apurensis eat one of the sev's the other day.
they take a lot of crap i will give them that but i have another 20 or so tanks to set up so i need them for a bit anyway.
they serve there purpose.

I used to dislike various kinds of fish...livebearers, goldfish, hybrids but now I pretty much like them all. I cannot rember who said it but a true fishkeeper really does appreciate all the different fishes for what makes them unique.

I remember someone knocking cyprinids...HOW DARE YOU!!!! Cyprinids are one of the most successfull familys of fishes in the world with more species under their belt than any other fish family. Sure, many of them are the bottom of the food chains, surely not monsters but for that reason we should all love them, they feed the predators you keep, both in and out of the wild. Show some respect.

I have to say, I don't much care for the selective bred mollys with odd colors or ballon shapes. The same goes with other livebearers. A wild sailfin molly though is an awsome little fish to behold.

I don't think you can really say you hate all catfish, there is over 3000 species. There should be one catfish if you search that you will like. If not then you are not trying. I like fish that get huge, anything less than 14" adult size is just a snack for my fish. I think all fish have their own special qualities, but some fish are predators, and some fish are prey. I keep them both, but the predators allways come out on top. I love plecos cause they do some weird things sometimes, and my catfish loves to pick them up on his nose and move them around the pond. As for those glowing fish, they would make awesome feeders if they were to give my fish special powers! Think about it, they have X-MEN, now we can have X-FISH!!!!!

I’m not a big fan of neon’s, I can respect them for their cool color and their group think, but for some reason I’m just not that drawn to them. That said.... I actually have a few that my mom requested for Mothers day. And I must say that my banjo cat is the most boring fish that I have ever owned, you can barely tell he is alive. And I would like to defend mollies, I like them and I have a group that came from a single mommy molly that are black with silver gills, they look really cool and are super friendly.

I’m not a big fan of neon’s, I can respect them for their cool color and their group think, but for some reason I’m just not that drawn to them. That said.... I actually have a few that my mom requested for Mothers day. And I must say that my banjo cat is the most boring fish that I have ever owned, you can barely tell he is alive. And I would like to defend mollies, I like them and I have a group that came from a single mommy molly that are black with silver gills, they look really cool and are super friendly.

My mollys nibble my fingers CONSTANTLY whenever Ifeed them, they will bite the fingers more than the food. They also nibble my arm hairs while I clean the tank, so do my goldfish.

I've had the honor of watching BOTH types of fish get slain in my tanks, though :cool:

200g tank with a 9" Texas cichlid, and my dad went out and follishly bought a 2" $20 yellow-dyed parrot. The texas said "Oh, volleyball!". My dad cursed and snarled, I applauded and told him never to go near my ****ing tanks ever again.

200g tank with various 1"-4" juvenile cichlids, both americans and africans. I throw in a $5 wal-mart oranda goldfish. That fat ugly goldfish got torn apart in a most spectacular fashion within just 20 minutes. And then, I took the goldfish's shredded remains back to wal-mart and got a refund. I actually made a very-detailed thread on this issue on another forum, ill get around to looking for it when I get a chance.

I agree with you. I don't understand why people on this forum hate goldfish. They are totally awesome, hardy, and they have great personalities. One of mine started out orange and black, then orange, and now it's pure white!

If studied properly each and every fish is beautiful in their natural environment, but the constant mutilations, selective breedings and manipulations to increase the selling price ruins the enjoyment of our Hobby. It is incredibly difficult to create a natural environment in which to study and enjoy each of our fish in their natural habitat, but the closer we come to achieving this goal the more we will enjoy the true purpose and plan for each of these species. Tank size is rarely ever big enough to allow each fish to live as intended, but each of us has a responsibility to be as true to this hobby as possible. Being a good caretaker is far more important in discovering the beauty of any fish than just purchasing what looks beautiful in the store and dumping it in water. You might have a favorite fish, but it is hard to hate a fish. If you have a favorite, treat it as if it is. Give it your best. For most of us, that is exactly what we do. For the unsuspecting, you should educate yourself and not rely only on your salesman for advice. It is your responsibility.

Blood Parrots, Bala sharks, and most of all I hate tinfoils. I had 4 tins and they would all hover right under my oscar and wait for him to crap. When he did crap they would actually try and suck it out or even fight for it...:barf:

O LOLOLOL MY tinfoil barbs did the exact same thing. It started out as one accidently eating a chunk of oscar poo, but he acquired a taste for it and the others mimicked it's behavoir and then they all started biting my poor O's butt when he started pooping. Eventually JIMMY the oscar pooped on the ground behind plants and then frantically dashed away. But I don't hate tinfoils. On the contrary, they are beautiful, big, peaceful and interesting for the first lil while. I don't really hate any fish much...

except stupid gobies. They are ugly and sit there until someone comes and then they teleport a few inches and sit there again. I observed some in the wild and they were a yawn fest.

and african cichlids... except hornet tilapia and those moori ones. They are overrated and have homely heads with fat lips and tall foreheads. Aggressive and intolerant of plants and inverts. I saw a baby frontosa torn to the bone by it's tankmates. OH YAY it's blue and this one is orange!


ANYWAYS, cyprinids are my favourite group. I love watching a shoal cruise around and their faces are the cutest out of all the fishes. Also they swim faster than most other fishes... most of them anyways. Many have their own personalities to some extent, for instance one of my barbs jumps all the time and another likes to forage off on his own under rocks and stuff... Anyways, for the most part it is the group that has the certain personality, as they try to learn from one another in order to be more successful. My barbs used to hang out with my oscar and beg for food with him. Now that the oscar is gone they don't get as excited over food...

I don't see how anyone can hate goldfish. Not only are they friendly, peaceful and hardy, they are beautiful in their own respect. The only thing I don't like is the fact that they are always munching on the roots of plants and digging up soil. ..and That loserrrrr who shredded a baby oranda I will hate for eternity. I cannot believe they got the refund. WHO bumped this anyways?


OH HEY I just remembered that I also hate bettas. I HEAR ABOUT NEMOS ALL THE TIME whenever I go to the LFS I hear the name NEMO at least once. I hear it also 4x more than I hear the name clownfish. Some people think zebra mbunas are "nemos" or albino tiger barbs... etc.

i dont like 'fancy goldfish' (commons are okay though) because i dont see why anybody would want to breed a fish to look deformed and twisted.
also , eventhough i like them, i find discus are overated and i dont see how thay could be claimed as 'the king of the aquarium'.
but apart from that i have love and respect for everyfish.
one last thing i by far prefer wild livebearers to man made strains.

Tiger Barbs are on the top ten. My neighbor used to have a big tank with nothing
but tiger barbs. I think it traumatized me somewhat :mad:

I also dont care for Plecos and Oscars with long fancy tails.

Lastly, dont like any fish that is dyed.

Ill add to the list when i think of something else. Its really hard... i love all fish in general.

Add plecos as my vote, i dont like anything that emits ropes from its North end and leaves that mess for someone else.

One of the most horrific sites I have seen at one my lfs was a two tanks side by side, one filled with dyed parrots, the other filled with tattooed mollies, yamma hamma fright night. now personally my most hated fish happens to be the iri sharks that i rehomed from someones 50g to my 180g

i was told that they were 3 6 inch catfish and when i went to get this dudes tank i found 3 fish from 10-14 inches long

they are such freaks that spook so easily ive had them torpedo my wrist when doing tank maintenance to even having the largest launch himself about 3 feet in the air from his last tank only to land in my wc sink my wife could hear me upstairs telling this fish off and telling it how stupid it was yet i put it back in the tank and it lived

another time i was doin wc on my 180 and the smallest one swam so fast from one side of the tank to the other that it smashed its head when it hit the side i thought it was dead cause it just floated there for like 3 min :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL: but then it kinda jerked an woke up an swam normally

suffice it to say i will do my best to give it a good life with good water quality but if the bugger gets eaten when i set up my indoor pond so be it cause its gonna need the tank size in about a year and if it dont get eaten by another fish so be it

Yeah Rays aren't that interesting (except the colorful venomous ones)

i hate all tetras, danios etc, mollies, most african cichlids, chocolate cichlids, jewel cichlids, common plecos, pictus cats, most catfish actually except for a few, list goes on and on.
