View Full Version : Attack from Channa Aurantimaculata
Just joined this sight and while waiting for me email to register, I fed my 7" Channa Aurantimaculata. while looking into the tank he lept form the water and bit my eye, luckily I managed to close my eye. I have a small cut under my eyebrow.

Unfortunatly no digi camera.
I think he saw my pupil moving, maybe thought it was a bug, Always hungry that fish.
The wound is small, a little red scratch where I think he got me with one of his teeth. Little bit saw this morning.
What a great fish :)

Dude, were you holding its food with your teeth? I saw that show also, they were doing that with Great Barracudas in the Carribean, but there was a warning, "Do not try this at home."

:22_yikes: I got 3 stitches from a Channa micropeltes in 1993. I was about to re-stick a heater to the rear glass when he got rowdy with my left middle finger. It was about 20" long , just a baby! :headshake
He also seems to go for my knuckles when I put my hand in for maintainance.
Strange fish! :)

I have a little story to add...
We had 2 snake heads, I can't remember what kind they were, but they had a red stripe on them. We got them because we thought they were a cool fish...kind of jumped on the band wagon! lol So anyway, they were getting big fast, and we decided to get rid of them...They were about 10". I had gotten some fish bags from my lfs and thougt, this will be really easy....We were in for a BIG supprise! I netted the first one and put it in the bag, it immediatly attacked the side of the bag, clamped on to it, and did an alligator death roll...lol...it tore a huge hole in the side of the bag! I could not believe it and I was laughing so hard, I did not notice it jumping out of the tank to attack my boyfriend! He jumped back and we through a towel on it, picked it up and through it back into the tank...WOW what an experiance! We put them into a 5 gal bucket, and took the back to the store. I never wanted another snake head again!

Yep a Snakehead, This one only grows to about 15"-16" though. I have some images there not brilliant I have really poor camera. The images do not show the iridescent blue in the fins and cracks on the head.

After a scan on the net, yes pretty much everywhere I've seen says 16", 40cm.
I do however believe it can get bigger.

Thanks, Jelly. I know, (about size issue)... most sites say 40cm is max size. One in pics is about 17" or so. Have seen some in the 18"+ range, as well. :)
