View Full Version : URGENT! Need help with my dat
Hey everybody,
I just got a dat. But the thing is i'm visitng my dad at the moment and wont be able to go out until tmr afternoon sometime. So about 24 hours. No more probably less. Should i just leave him in the bag? Or take him out? My dad doesn't have a spare tank about but he does have a spare bath tub. The woman at the shop didn't really bag him up properly so the bag is kinda deflated and i'm scared it might be loosing more air... Thanks in advance
no ones got any comments on what i should do? if this dat dies i'll be pissed off

get bigger bags, swap 2 cup of water per hour, he'll be fine
he bags i have are already pretty big. We asked for extra big bags so there could be more oxygen in the bag but because she tied it up all wrong the big bags full of air are useless. It was just a floppy bag with no air in it.
Anyways thank you fish room plus i'm doing as you advised.. I'm praying that everything goes right goes i've been dying for a dat for aaages...

Eugene, on a recent long trip just before shipping the fish I opened the bag and did the "super quick grab" method, so you have a bulbous bag full of fresh air. The fish was fine. Do that, he'll be fine.
Just sit it down, pull it up nice and tort, then grab around the top very quick and tie it, you'll have a bag full of air.

24 hours, a drive to POrtugal, then overnight shipping to south portugal. It was the striata :D
I would not change the water at all, I think that's a bad idea. You're in another country, could be a big change in water chemistry, PH etc, with such a small body of water.
I don't think a presumably small dat is going to create enough waste in a day to die. Also did you not make his bag too cold?
The most important thing is temp. and oxygen, if I were you, just make sure he's warm enough and has enough oxygen in the bag :)
Thanks again joe. I put him in a thick black bag outside on the balcony he wont be in direct sunlight. The temp outside is about 28*C. So he should be fine. He's not jumping any more. I think it might of been the cold water i poured in. Anyways hope everything goes well tonight.

Do you have access to a small air pump or can you get one?
well its 11.30pm and nope. Dad just setup a brand spanking new planted tank. Has everything for the planted tank, co2 the works but no airpump. He's sitting in a bag now on my balcony. I figure when he was shipped over from where ever he was in a bag with other dats. Now its just the same but he's got his own bag. PRAY FOR ME!!!
Jeez, if the woman didn't bag it up properly, then you RE-BAG it!
Don't do all these putting stress enezyme and whatever crap you're doing... it'll just make things worse.
Keep the fish in the bag, don't take it out. Don't bag and re-bag every 5 minutes either.
Also remove that black bag! Black attracts heat at a much faster rate and before you know it the fish will be cooked! This is the summer!
Find a box and put the fish in the bag in the box.

Did it live or die?
Sorry for my stupidity but I just joined this forum. I have seen a lot of posts about dats. What are they? I assume that is short for something, but what is the full name and anyone have pics? Also, how did your fish do, did he make it back alive? Thanks.
Nope fish died. On the way back home. Stopped by my dads office to collect a few things got back in the car. Checked on the fish and it was dead..
