How do you lower nitrates
water changes. how much depends on how good ur filtration is. most people change 25% of the water weekly. water changes are not fun but they are a must.

filteration really has no effect on nitrate
no matter how much or how little
the more stock you have and the for efficient your filter the higher the nitrate production.
so water changes are the key

those usually only work of you have a light stock and densely planted tank/pond.
but they work non the less
also plants dont usually use the nitrate, but use the ammonium form.

:D DAm DeLgAdO is right. nitrates are just the final form of the crap that our fish produce. and the only way to get rid of them is with waterchanges. sorry, gave u wrong info.

I actually kinda like doing W/Changes! I really like aquascaping differently weekly!
If you get it in your head that they are essential to happy healthy fish and responsible fish keeping, then it's not too bad! Goes with the territory! ;)
Cheers,
Pete.

How do you lower nitrates
you do a water change 10 /15 percent :)
Yup, waterchanges is always the best way to get rid of nitrate. However, nitrate is good for the plants. Lots of plant fanatics add especially NO3 and PO4 for better growth.

Plants regardless of how many will use the nitrates. However, they will not use them all up, unless you have way to many plants for the tank. Water changes are the best way, but having plants won't hurt.
there is a way to rid of nitrate through a special filtration system, which I am not familiar with.
the best and most simple way is to keep up your regular water changes.

Waterchanges.
The special filtrations system is an anaerobic system with a long coil of tubing.I was looking into it but decided against it cause if you mess it up you poison your fish, and it doesnt remove hormones and all the other stuff that builds up.

you do a water change 10 /15 percent :)
that all depends on your bioload
i can see you donig that on a 75 gal tank with a school of about 20 neon tetras, with a fairly well planted tank.
but if its a 300 with an arowana, afew large catfish and big cichlids you might wanna up it to 50-75% a week, maybe even twice a week.
