Finally talked the boyfriend into letting me get a bigger tank... now I'll have a 10, 20, 29 and a new 55 I'm getting today. I have no idea what the heck to put in it. I can't decide on anything. On one hand, I'd like a nice looking community tank with flashy fish to compliment my tank of drab colored ropes and bichirs. On the other hand, I'd like a species tank showcasing a species I really like... don't know which one though. Or... I could get some other kind of monster I havent tried yet. Any ideas or recommendations?
HAPPY BDAY ME!!

What type of fish??
** I have an idea... not sure how it will work though. The LFS nearby has this huge clown knife for sale - they have it priced @ 100 - its in a 20gallon and it's so damn big it touches both ends of the tank and can't swim at all. I feel so sad when I see it - they have had it for over two months and no one has bought it. Maybe I should rescue it... I know a 55 is nowhere near big enough but it'd be better than what it is now... Wouldn't have room for anything else though

That sounds like out of the fire and into the frying pan to me. I would suggest a sweet African tank or maybe some new world cichlids. You may even want to try some piranha but I don't really care for them myself

You could go with like 300 neon tetras with some big plant in the middle.:D I saw one at a fish store and it was really colorful. With a 55gallon you could also try an oscar. Just a couple of ideas for you to think about.
Happy Birthday!!!:clap

I'd move the bichirs and ropes into the 55 and use whatever tank they were in for something else but thats just me -Anne

I may need to separate the senegals... they were very different in size but she (I think) caught up in size and now hes going thru another growth spurt. I don't want them to fight... regardless of what I decide there will be ONE senegal in the tank.
I'd like something interesting, something I think is cool, something that will go well in a 55 (at least for a few years) and something I can get to. There are a lot of really nice fish ive seen on here that I don't have a hope at finding in Dallas. Like those rainbow fish someone mentioned in this thread. Never seen them in the LFSs around here... about to research them though.

Colorful African Cichlid tank.
Happy Birthday! :D :D :D :D
I was going to do that with my 55, but I made mine a planeted community tank instead.
African Butterflies, Festivums, Golden and Pearl Gourami's are my favorite fish in there right now, Oh, scarlet kribensis.
Red and blue rams as well as my Rainbow Boesmanis are UBER colorful in there.
