Hello,

I had a quick question for you all. I have a 75 gallon tank, and I would like to have it become a showcase fish tank. I just want ONE fish in the tank. What fish would be a good candidate for this?

Reading your thread is pushing me to upgrade NOW...I've been growing this psycho Red Devil from 2in to 7inches in only 7 months...He's the showcase in a 30g tall..A 100g upgrade is definately needed...If someone hooked me up with a 75g, I'll growout another male RD, no doubt I'm hooked to these.....

Flowerhorn, Vieja of some type, maybe a female jag.

I was going to suggest a Flowerhorn Aswell. Swim around, Pay attention to their surroundings.
Will fill the tank up by itself, and be fine by itself, and are Super colorful.

I'd get a Jack Dempsey, a FH (even though you can't really get them here) or a BlackBelt or something!

Good luck, let us know what you decide!
Pete.

For a show tank I would not go with any common Cichlid, the only type of a Cichlid to settle for would be a high quality show Flowerhorn. Good luck impressing someone with an Oscar.

Dat's get too big for a 75, would make a cool show grow out tank. :grinyes:

Frontosa would be cool, one large male.

I impress plenty of people with my Oscar.
Of course the people i impress arent avid fish keepers and dont really know of any other fish.
So if you're trying to impress the admins on this site... an Oscar might not be the way to go. ;)

There are plenty of cichlids that are very attractive and conversation starters.
My Jack Dempsey is colorful, but he always hangs out in this log, so for a show fish i would say no.
Maybe a male Green Terror. I've seen some very nice GT's.
Red Devils are pretty boring as far as color.
Salvinis are very colorful, but a 75 gallon would be on the empty side with just 1.

Just pull up a nice long list of cichlids or other fish that dont get much larger than 12-14". Pick out the most attractive species and narrow it down from there.
Pick a fish that YOU think is nice. Otherwise you could be here forever while everyone here argues about what fish are more impressive.

I'd go with either a Uaru. Not as common as most cichlids, and they get to be a decent size and would look great alone in a 75.

Maybe a pike cichlid? Remember Discus are very sociable fish and enjoy the company of their own kind so don't keep one by itself, a pair of big colourful discus would look beautiful in a well planted tank.

Prehistoric Monster Fish?
Snakeheads?
Uaru?

No Doubt a FlowerhornUSA.com zz Dragon FH, the best looking fish ever, with the personality that makes you forget it's alone. If you don't own a FH get one and you'll fall in love quick!

A Largemouth bass kicks ass, but 75 gal will only hold him for a while.

How about an Oscar for personalty ( Red or Tiger ) Parrot Cichlids are really bright although for me they do better in 2s or 4s.
