I'd love to keep one mate maybe if i get another tank set up in the future maybe i'd keep one or two, i don't think they'd do too well in my tank now they prefer cold water.
Glad you enjoyed the pic's !

Nice catches. They almost look like mini pbass with their coloring (not really the right body shape though). Looks like a cool fishing spot also.

looks just like my local canal dan. we gotta do a mfk fishing trip. i cant wait to go fishing for perch. its been to long, i can hardly remember what to do.
thats a good idea davo i need some freshwater fishing people to show me how to go on as i am a salty fisher usually
dan said he wouldnt mind taking me at some point lol. funny thing is, i got a load of gear in the garage, just havent used it for years. do it in the next few months tho, otherwise im back to swansea. dan, you catch any eels? our canal has quite a few of the b*stards (well 5 years ago anyway)
They look a lot like the Yellow Perch i catch here in MN.

Nice looking canal! I take it they were caught on a pole? I love fishing for them in the winter but using lures my son had some corkers on the pole. What canal were you fishing?

Those are very cool looking, you should really set up a tank for them.

You should set up a native tank with them and a couple Silurus Glanis cats. LOL

You can!! They're called yellow perch here in the US (Perca flavescens). I'm originally from the northeast (Clifton, NJ, Selden, NY, and Montauk, NY) and have caught these perch in just about any body of FW in both states.

I think it would be a great Idea to Organise a UK MFK fishing trip!!!
Leave it with me and the staffs and let's see what we can come up with ;)
Not everybody has transport so i think that would be a main concern, also not many people acctually fish but that dosen't really matter as i'm sure we could get a good croud together.

Not sure mate, I saw Rex Hunt catching a few of these bad boy's and he didn't seem to mind them so much ....
i wouldnt be suprised if they were pests in aus. i'd like to set up a tank with a couple of little ones, watch how they grow. well if anyone wants a lift who lives between a and b, i drive.

Wow :WHOA: really i wasn't aware they grew that big i was just going on an averge size i'd herd they grew to but if you say they grow that big and judging by your pic "they do" then i'm a beliver !!!
The UK fishing trip is in the works i've put it up for discussion in the staff lounge and we'll sort something out where it's easy enought for all UK members to get to as of yet there's no date for trip or anything yet we still on the drawing board with the idea. we'll keep you all posted!
make sure it aint too far from glos, cause i know theres a few northeners on here

I do admit a 5 lb fish is exceptional
but there are load of 3-4 being caught all the time now.Have a look at this.

British fish are getting bigger every year just look at some of these figures.
Barbel 21lb
Carp Mirror 64lb
Pike 46lb
Roach 4lb 10oz
Tench 15lb These are the record for each fish in the UK
Global warming has a lot to answers for . I have been fish since I was my sons age and have watched fish sizes go up and up last year I had a 8 lb Tench as a kid I would have made all the papers with that fish to catch one over 7 lb was amassing and to have a 20lb + Barble well what next. Its not just here it going mad the world record for a Carp now is a massive 83lb 8oz. This is from Rainbow Lakes in France. That’s a king carp not Siamese Giant carp you want to see big do a search for them.
