I decided to go on the safe side, and reseal my new-to-me 150gal tank. I hear on some other sites about using Aquarium Safe silicon, or 100%, or some random names.

So before resealing with junk, I just want to make sure I got some good stuff... and it looks to me like this GE Silicon II might just be the right stuff. Anyone ever use it? Opinions? Any application tips?

Looks OK to me.

Call the manufacture and ask if its food grade and appropriate for aquariums. There is a difference and deffinately a quality issue. I heard somewhere that the GE II is chemically identical to the same silicone sold as "aquarium" silicone both made by GE. The reason the GE II doesnt say anything about it being okay for aquariums is purely liability. GE doesn't want to replace someone's carpet because the silicone on their home made aquarium "failed".

The stuff says "100% silicon" right on the side in Gold. So I'm gonna go for it, and if it don't work out, then I'll refer to the Stupid Mistakes forum :)

EDIT: Just called GE and asked... the woman on the Phone basically freaked out and told me this stuff would most definitely kill my fish and do not use it for an Aquarium under any circumstances.

It'll work. I prefer GE I as it seems to adhere to glass better and sets up faster.

GE II advertises that it contains something called Bioseal and implies that this is a mold inhibitor. This is misleading advertising. Bioseal is actually a drying agent; all 100% silicone caulks are naturally mold resistant. So, you don't have to worry about antifungal toxins in the tank. I myself avoided GE II for years because of the Bioseal until someone set me straight.

Both GE I and GE II are acetic acid cure silicones. They will reek of vinegar while curing, so provide some ventilation.

awww i used the same stuff for my 150 before dude curing time will be a ***** but make sure you wont smell the vinegar smell , after that you can add water. but some peeps claims the silicone cures under water i believe the ge 2 is acetic cure ... anyways 150 held up though... but i really would recommend the ge rtv 108 works like crazy you can call grainger and they will provide you with momentives contact info and they will tell you its being used in some big tanks over 1000 gal so that will surely hold.
plus the rtv has more adhesion compared to that ... just my 2c :) gl with the rebuild

Well, I just went to the LFS and picked up some MARINELAND AQUARIUM SEALANT which is, just like the GE II, as in 100% silicon. It even has the same warnings on it... and I'd bet its the same stuff. Except on GE I found, in the smallest print, "Not for use on aquariums". Probably just a liability thing, same with the phone call, but either way, I'm just gonna take the safe road and skip it.

1/4 the amount for 2x the price for this Marineland stuff does not make me a happy camper, but if I was being a cheapa$$ then I wouldn't have a fish tank. I don't see me needing much anyways, and I'm just doing touchup in places that look imperfect.

i can guarentee it is just repackaged GE I (GE II should never be used in aquariums becuase it has bioseal in it that may leach into your water) and on GE I it also used to say safe for aquarium use years ago (so i've heard) then when they started repackaging this stuff into the aquarium safe versions they put the "not safe" label so people would buy the more expensive ones.

As I said originally, GE I is what you want to use. GE I use to have aquarium safe on the label but it was removed to get eveyone to buy the higher priced stuff sold in LFS. Ditto on the bioseal!
