Which Crenicichla obtains the largest size? Would it be Cincta or is there larger? Does anyone have examples of large pikes +18"? Thanks

Largest pike? Hmmm....I would have to say its either Crenicichla strigata or Crencichla sp. venezuela....these guyz get HUGE!! Pushing the 2' mark. The Lugubris family grows the largest though, with the smallest i think about 10".....most are in the 12 to 15" range though. Pretty big fish if you think about it. They can be rather thick.

Thanks guys. That website has some good info on pikes. I've had strigata before and found them to be very aggressive towards tankmates. They would attack in a "waspy" type manner or "hit and run". Are there any large type pikes ~18" or more that tolerate tankmates any better? Keep in mine that it will be kept in a very large tank.

i had a venezuela and it went from 3 inch sissy to a 14inch monster in about 7 to 8 months, at which point he began to torment everything else in the tank. a big fh and asian red tail cat were the only fish tough enough to handle what he was dishing out. they get big very quickly if maintained in optimum conditions.
