water evap Question

When you put a pound indoor ( in the basement ) do you have any problem with the water that evap's out messing with the wood floor or anything like that.

I think that you would. It's always a good idea to have a big dehumidifier in the same room.

A lot would depend on the temperature. The less evaporation there is, the less you'll need. I dont have any first hand experience with ponds, but I dont think that it would require one that is too big. I think a large window A/C unit would take care of it, so a similar rated dehumidifier should do the trick.

It depends on the size (sf) and the relative humidty in your basement. Adding to large of a dehumidifier can actually evaporate water from your pond.

If your serious, get a rel. humidity meter and check your basement over several weeks.

If it turns out that your basement has a low humidity, it will cause evaporation from your tank too.

But once you have a starting point (before tank is installed) you will quickly be able to calculate the size de-humidifier you need. Best guess - 2-3 gal/day adjustable.

Can't remember who, but someone setup a really cool temp tank out of a small (600g-700g) swimming (kiddie) pool, I jsut can't find the tread. Anyway he put a tented cover it to hold in humidity.

Hey, Has anyone used a de-humidifier and let it drain right back into the tank/pond? can't remember seeing it anywhere.

Why not just install a ventilation fan to blow out the air throuth a vent to outside which would suck in air from the rest of your house, or whatever windows/doors leade to the room.
Kinda like a bathroom vent but a little more horsepower.
this should keep humidity in the air and not settled on surfaces like your floor.

I have 17 tanks, lots of evaporation and humidity remains at a decent level. Usually 55%

If there is a say almost 8000g pond will it be able to control the humidity levels? I chose this one because it has a drain so you could let the evaporated water back into the pond.

With 8000 gallons, your are looking at roughly 5-15 gallons a day! You need atleast 2 of those dehumidifiers.

I was thinking the same thing. Why not have a huge hard lid? Even go as far as to completely seal it to the pond. As long as you ran a wet/dry you should have plenty of oxygen. and very very very little evap.
