This is all too common and all of us has probably committed this no-no at one point or another. Sometimes we get overanxious about our new fish and in our attempt to make sure that we dont screw up and kill the fish, we sometimes tend to "overdo" things and end up well, screwing up .

Im talking about dosing your tank with meds when youre not sure what the problem is, watching the fish closely that it stresses the new fish etc etc etc.. Anybody else done something like this before?

Back when I was a newblar, I used to actively try and control my pH using that **** they sell at lfses. My aquarium underwent huge swings with every water change.

I have always been a screwem kinda guy, if it ain't obvious what is wrong I give em a quick salt dip and don't feed em for a couple days, If they die I toss em or feed them to the crabs. I usually get my fish cheap, can you tell?

Great Responses...

P45 - I know what youre saying... been there done that and its pointless . Id rather acclimate my fish the my taps PH than go crazy adjusting it every few days. Wild PH Swings have shocked and killed countless fishes in our hobby

Li - keep it simple and do not overfeed. Sounds simple but its not. I would make a new topic out of the do not overfeed part.

Guppy - you gotta have a screw em mentality once in a while or else you get stressed out. But when you keep expensive fish and they start acting strange on
you sometimes you just can help it.

When i started out with rays i remember watching every twitch of the disc
and i would really stress myself out because i thought that i am seeing the infamous "Death Curl"... Good thing i had enough common sense to not do anything about it like put salt ,melafix etc..

Don't blame you, it reelly helps when you get stuff for free.

LOL True.. but i love the challenge of keeping "sensitive" fish sometimes. Sometimes it gets to me...

I try to stay away from Sensitive fish. I consider all rays sensitive. Yes even Motoros. I've managed to kill those too.

When the ray acts sluggish, dont wanna eat ..then you get pissed off ..when u get
a dead ray, you want to throw in the towel. Its tough.. the blackworm phase is what i hate the most.

But when you see 3-4 rays scaling the walls of the tank at the same time at 1230 at night playing like little boys, or when you see them gliding through a 6 ft tank .. .. its a mini miracle :hearts:
