I saw one of these in a local river, it looked damn cool. Just over a foot long. It came right near the stairs of the river and I was going to net it before my dog scared it away.

I'm gonna go back and try and look for it.

Do they survive and thrive in tropical temps? I know they are widespread, in some places that have a sort of tropical climate.

Has anyone kept one in a tropical tank? i plan to keep it at around 82/83.

I've heard of a few being kept in tropical tanks, but I'm not sure how the acclimating process is.

I suppose you slowly adjust the temperature over a gradual time... don't expect to just catch it and dump it in your tank expecting it to survive.

Rottbo - yeah I know I've seen the fishbase profile, thanks :D I was wondering if anyone has kept them in a tropical tank.

MING thanks, I was planning to dump it straight into a tropical tank yep. Eels are pretty tough. Put it this way, I collected a shoal of fry from that river the other day, simply syphoned some tankwater into their bucket so it was 50/50 then dumped them into my chaca chaca tank which is around 82/83. They are fine, all have survived so far, apart from the ones that were eaten.
