I was quoted $1300 for a 300+:headbang2 gallon tank that is 96 lenght 24 width and 31 inch height this is a acrylic tank that is from Truvu and has a black back wit no holes drilled in it.
Also if anyone knows a place in the san francisco area that has good deals on a 300+ gallon tanks please let me know i am looking to get this next month

I think that is too much.
What would be a good price then?

The background was that famous blue....Back in 1992, my uncle purchased two TRUvu 300g tanks for a grand total of $1,600....After his wife's death, he sold the two for a mere$1,200 and left the hobby.....Everything could of been mine, but I had no room.....Anyway, the owner of the store was a family friend....Too bad he closed shop....I love plexi, but dam things scratch easily, that's why the majority of my arsenal is glass now...I believe an all-glass-San Francisco-300 would cost between $750-900....
Can you recommend a place cause all the places are trying to charge me in the 1000+ range and only offer me acrylic and they say that can't get a tank that big or they can only get acrylic.

for me it's reasonable. i have a 180 acrylic tank with overflow box and holes in it. it cost me almost 1000 usd. i again requested for a quote the same specs and they told me it's 1050 usd already. price is going up. just make sure you have the right thickness on the tank. don't be fooled on 3/8 or 1/2 inch thick. from what i read before... higher than 24" you need to use 3/4" and at a certain height you need to use 1" and so on. just make sure the thickness all around is the right one. one last thing is... the warantee on the tank. oh.. is this brand new or used? sorry.. didn't see any written on the thread.:D

My glass cages 300 was $1000 for glass. I would have loved to have only had to pay $300 more for acrylic. The cheapest quote in my area I got on an acrylic 300 was over $2k
Well I have been looking on craigslist and there has been nothing that size except once and that was gone in less than 3 hours after it posted! So i have deicided to go with a new one since finding a used one is pretty tough but i am still checking craigslist daily.

I personally would build my own, but I am a craftsman at heart.

If you buy an acrylic on, make sure that there is a lifetime warranty on it. All reputable acrylic tank manufacturers will have lifetime warranties.

If you ask me, $1300 is a good deal for 300 acrylic. lest we forget oil prices are on the rise, what do you think acrylic is made from?

I never thought of that. But could it have that much of an effect on the price

Yes, the price of Acrylic tanks have gone up almost 40% in the last 2 years.. The acylic is made out of it, and it takes gas to deliver the finished tank wherever it is to be delivered, double whammy
I see what you mean. I am not stuck on getting acrylic i would get glass to just depends on the price

I could have one right now for 500 including filtration and jets for waterflow... Plus sand and 150 lb. of lace rock... I would offer 500.00 and see what he says and not go over 800. in mint condition, for age :) 1300.00 isn't real bad but not good :)
So it comes down to how much you want it :)
