LOL notice this tigrinus is missing streamers . Reason is because it was kept with a puffer temporarily.

You bet! Thanks again Ming..Thanks for helping me walk the baby.LOL
WIll - you should grow out one.. i know you love monster cat fish.
Perky - thanks. I cant wait for this guy to get bigger ..
Rayman - its in a divided area of the 75. The 2 frts are playing nicely..so far.

I'd love to start with a tig that small...prob is nowhere to put it :(. It'd end up being food. I'm jealous, lol. Good luck with the growout Wes...:)
redtailfool
07-18-2005, 11:23 PM
Thanks Eric.. you can buy those hang on guppy breeder tanks , hang it on the side of your big tank and then grow it out...
Always wanted to grow one out too , , , but i kept on thinking it would end up as a very expensive feeder too. I made a DIY divider in my 75 using eggcrate and hard plastic with holes.

07-18-2005, 11:33 PM
Haha...You don't know my Leos very well. They screw with everything. Sometimes I find the covers of my AC500's knocked around because they play with the intakes. One time they even pulled an intake off, haha. They are beasts, so even if there were a guppy tank, I'd be worried. Dividers are no good as they love smashingthemselves into them. I must have the leos from hell :(. One day i'll just have to bite the bullet and buy a 12"+ tig.
redtailfool
07-18-2005, 11:40 PM
Dont you have the smaller tanks below??? i would hang on the plastic thing in there ... LOL your leos are beasts... rays really are smart animals. . .i dont know how many times they have "bypassed" my dividers. Yeah you could shell out 5 clams or more to get a nice sized one. :)

The tank underneath is going to be another wet dry identical to the other one, hehehe. I have all of the acrylic to make it...just have to get rid of the feeders now.
redtailfool
07-18-2005, 11:56 PM
I remember the tanks underneath housed sub adult flowers and a nice motoro.
You got rid of them ?
Deathcurl
07-19-2005, 12:32 AM
The flowers are the ones you see in the pics...They're in the 125 now as is the small cb motoro :).
I told you he's a perfect fish (except for the streamers). :)
It was nice meeting your wife and your little boy. :D Next time we can go to Jersey and have lunch again (after Shark Aquarium of course) lol. :p

What's the max size on the tigrinus? I love monster cats, but TSN and RTC just get too big for the room I have now. Are tigrinus any better when it comes to size?

I don't mean to derail your thread, but I figure Tig's are the topic of discussion, so why not. I'm finding it hard ot justify a 180g when I'm off to college in a year, and hopefully med school soon after that. So, next best thing is a 90g, or possibly a 125g. Obviously, arowanas and rays are out of the question. So, I want to do a Tig, P.E.Endlicheri, D.Pulcher, paroon, maybe a royal plecoand giant red tail gourami, and a Pbass or two. Think I could pull it off?

Thanks for the compliments everyone! . Always nice to share new finds with fellow hobbyists.. I cant wait to grow it out. Maybe ill take pics of it every month for comparison...
Eric - what pics ??
Ming - pleasure is all mine. Lets def get the Shark A Trip in order. how about 2 weeks from now.. get your camera ready.
Dan - Thanks man.. it destroyed 10 guppies in 1 night. I dont know how but it did.
you can actually see the guppy in the belly because its so stretched out.
Aapl- thanks . . . i hope it becomes worthy of your approval when it gets bigger =)
Kid - thanks pare.. tigs are hard to find in Manila? and the usual question, how much are they over there? :p
kilduv - they were actually rare and expensive here in the us 4-5 years ago. A 5 incher would cost your 300-400 easily if available at all. But i guess word spread out that a tigrinus is a must have so importers are getting them on a regular basis.
Kid - thanks pare.. tigs are hard to find in Manila? and the usual question, how much are they over there? :p
yup, pretty difficult.. it does get here occasionally but it get bought out quick.. they are about P15k here for a 4 incher :)
i'm trying to ask some importers if they could get me one :)

Ill post updates once a month so that the difference would be more distinct.
Right now,the main difference that i noticed is that the tig is getting chunkier by the day. It is definitely going to outgrow its cramped quarters in 2-3 months.

Now that you mentioned it, i see small scratches on my motoros disc. I believe this came from my tig too. Ugh, time to separate them i guess.

no need to seprate tigs and rays are a great mix
the rays will push the tig around but they dont seam to care
how long have you had the tig now and what size is he
AmazonPredator
09-26-2005, 11:53 PM
Dude, he just say his tig killed a ray. It sure doesn't sound like a great mix... :screwy:
They seem so placid and laidback, too. They're silent killers...
T1KARMANN
09-30-2005, 3:18 AM
small flower rays are not very hardy are you sure it was the tig that killed the ray
Cimmel1
09-30-2005, 9:58 AM
Yes I'm sure. My tig also attacks my leopoldi and motoro but they are larger and fight back. It seems as my tig gets larger its becoming far more aggressive and territorial. The flower ray was only about 6" and the last day it was alive it appeared it had taken a severe beating the night before. Unfortunate, she was a beautiful ray!
Not to say tigs and rays are a bad mix, I've seen it done many times before. Mine just seems to be a little more aggressive than most.
ornate bichir took a nice chunk out of the ray =( .
See the wutang ray thread for more details.
damn that sucks.. hope it get better..
T1KARMANN
09-30-2005, 3:58 PM
mm did the tig have a tube or a place to call its own ? if it did that could have been the problem as the tig was defending its space
i keep my tank bare with just gravel so their is no teritory thing going on in my tank
