gibby and a common together?

i have a 10" gibby which seems to be the ruler of the tank"hes pretty nasty!" and at my lfs there is a 12-14" common that is free to a good home. would i have any major probs with these together? tank is 90g and lots of hiding places

I don't see a 90 gallon holding a 12 inch common for very long, (they can get 16-24 inches long) let alone two big plecs.
A L164 seems to have the same care as a run of the mill gibby, just has a different pattern and dorsal shape.

Do you have a larger tank to house the common in? Atleast 2feet wide would be a minimum, 2.5 feet would be barely humane in my eyes.

That being said, your intentions are great for wanting to rescue him, but be warned, the bigger it gets, the less of a chance you have to offload it when it outgrows your tanks.

i wouldnt say 2 feet minimum, thats too small really. basically if you can house a 17-18inch and 24 inch pleco, then go for it (presuming that the common is Hypostomus plecostomus). they will be territorial so they must have room and somewhere to hide. it would be more common to have a gibby, i was under the impression that the L164 is not often exported. they are very similar fish though, in care and looks. heres pics to tell the difference, the markings on the body are different, esp around the head

yep it looks EXACTLY like the first pic! i bought this fish at PETCO for 6 bucks under the name of butterfly pleco which it deffinetely is not, and i was told that it would get a foot max. ha ha
