Do lights actually make a cichla's color better or do they just make them easier to see, thus making it look that way?

Some lights are intended to enhance or highlight certain colours in fish, but overall more light simply means you can see more detail and subtlety in the colour of the fish.

the right lighting will definitely improve the color of your cichla. since their colors tend to be in the yellows, reds, and greens, try to pick a spectrum of lighting that highlights those colors. and that tends to be between 6500-10,000k

So lights just highlight the colors of the fish while using them, and they DONT make the color pigment in the fish richer, right?

i dont think any light does this, unless you physically 'tan' the fish as many do with asian arowanas and UV lights. any light will only accent the color that is already on the fish, not actually 'enrich' it
