A friend of mine is getting rid of his 220 with sump stand powerheads and everything. He kept saltwater fish in it though and everything has a lot of salt and stuff on it. He told me he would clean it up though before he sold it too me. I want to make it a freshwater rays tank and some other misc. fish. Do you think it would be ok or would the salt residue and stuff harm the fish? Or I was thinking I could just get new media in the filter? But what do you guys think?
Thanks,
Tyler
I say go for it. Just clean it up really well. FW fish can tolerate a small amount of salt anyway, so I don't see a problem.
Yeah, it should be fine. I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just fill the tank, wipe it down, drain it, and refill.

Salt will disappear in the first few water changes but a quick rinse is all you really need to get rid of it. I would get your other fish in there to cycle the tank, once that is done then get your rays after and you will be fine.

I had a tank that I converted from salt to fresh. I just rinsed it down.
