I think the thread should be re-labeled to:

:eek3: What PERCENT of EVERY pay check goes into your fishkeeping hobby?:eek3:

For me, choosing to live at home(dad's house), untill I graduate College, gives me the chance to splurge on whatever I put my mind to...I pay no rent here in San Francisco, I have a floor dedicated to the hobby, so life is sweet...When I do hit the union hall(LOCAL22) and get paid, it's even sweeter:cool-1: .....Since losing my project DRIFTER car(1992 NIssan 240) early this year, spending 80%, or more, of every paycheck on fish/fish-related material is not uncommon.....

i'm a cheap ass, so it's a lot less than what some people think.
I've told my deals before, but I wont bother saying it again LOL

I have never made a single large purchase for one item...yet, but it really does add up, especially the curse of the "free" tank, when you somehow get a tank for "free" and the next thing you know you dropped a couple hundred on it! I think we agree on this phenomenom!

My 125 was $300, plus the $75 for the stand, $90 for the filters, $20 for the sand, plus about $150 in the past for fish (before I kept natives) and who knows how much on food! Its well worth it though, its a great hobby to have!

Id have to guess in the last 2 years 3-4000.And I got most of my tanks for free.thats equiptment fish and construction materials for fixing up my fishroom and building the new room for my fishroom.I bought the 3 125g one of the 75g and one 55g all used but all the rest of the tanks were free

I been in the hobby over 30 years. Have easily spent tens of thousands.

I never tried, nor desired, to add up this hobby's total cost over the past 40+ years. If I don't even consider the hundreds of tanks and thousands of fish I've bought and sold over the years, I'm currently at a point where I bought a 7500+ square foot building to house well over 100 tanks/bins totalling over 20,000 gallons. Even if I could somehow perform the math for over 4 decades worth of spending on this hobby, I'd probably push myself to eat a bullet once I saw the bottom line.

i've had a fishtank< for atleast 15 yrs, but in the last 5 yrs i've been 'addicted' , as my old roomate said 'it's your drug'. it's what makes me happy and have something to show for it.
i can prove about 5,000 but the free&gragesale stuff & food whoknow's
about twice to 3 times a year i go to my favorate fish store and ken the owner(King ed petcentre, burnaby) he sees me and he lights up , as he ksnows i'll drop 2-3hundred bucks!
i'll come home , do my happy dance, put things together.
sit back &watch the fish= PRICELESS

I could not put a value on what fish keeping is worth to me. I have had up to 50 tanks at one time 8 to 120 gal. The one that ment the most to me was a 100 gal Discus tank. With wild caught 6 inch or larger pairs. At that time the names aren't what they are now. Blues, Reds, Greens and Browns. In the 70s $90.00 a pair for the coloreds and $40.00 for the browns. I always wanted that set up. I got it (hog heaven) spent hours with that tank. Maybe some of you have heard of hole in the head bad in wild caught then. I haven't had discus 1 sence then.
