Most lionfish kept in the home aquariums are not deadly. They are only deadly if you ignore the sting or your allergic. Scorpions have a more potent sting then most lionfish, my scorpion stung me a month ago. This is what it feels like: YOu know when you stub your toe on the air conditioner vent in your house? It is just like that but instead of it going away in about 30 seconds. It sticks with you until you get the sting in really hot water.

Lionfish stings are only deadly if you are allergic, but you don't know your allergic till you get stung....... I have read that a good way to ease the pain of a Lionfish Sting, is to pee on the sting site....... at least that is what they do in the phillipines........ And I am curious as to how it feels when you get stung by a lion, but I am not gonna purposely do it. Although everytime I feed him he gets awful close.......

My grandmother was once stung by a channel catfish, and she had to be hospitalized for a day.

I'd really be interested in knowing first hand how all the stings feel, but only for an instant.

Do any of you have pics of the afflicted body part after being stung by a lion fish? I have a large voltan (sp?) lion that I always tell people will mess them up if they stick their hand in the tank, but I never really had anything to back it up with. I know he inverts if you even get near him, but that's just because he's a jerk that way. I know my eel will take a chunk out of you if you're not paying attention!

I'm one of the idiots who don't drag their feet when at the beach in San Diego. I stepped on a small sting ray and the little bastard stung me on the inner ankle. Didn't leave the barb but it burned like hell. My ankle swelled up for a few hours like it would if you sprained it. It must have been a really little guy becasue the cut was pretty small. It could have at least left the barb for a souvenier.

They are only deadly if you go into anaphylactic shock and death may only occur if you ignore treatment. Treament is a shot of Kenelog is your butt. A steroid that causes horrible muscle cramping. I had to get a shot of it after having a bad reaction to a bite from a Sunburst baboon spider.

I couple of Advil and the burning only lasted for about 15 min. I spoke to the life gaurd at the closest tower and she said just some ice and clean it up really good. She said it happens all of the time and good thing it didn't leave the barb. They are difficult to remove without a blade.

Only if you are alergic..

I got stung by a full grown Black Volitan and wow, that hurt.. Not as bad as I expected though.

With that urchin sting you need to make sure part of the spine didn't get lodged in your finger as it can cause a severe infection.
