View Full Version : proper diet for a tiger shovelnose
My tiger shovelnose is about a foot long. I've been feeding him shrimp and tilapia fillet from the supermarket. Is that an acceptable diet for this kind of fish?

That diet is great. I would also use whole smelt too - great item for predatory catfishes.

I feed mine a six inch koi, now thats all he will ever eat. Wish I could train him to eat other food, but he is in with smaller fish, so starving is not an option.

yeah, that's a good diet for most large predatory catfish. basically you just want variety, so i'd try some beefheart as well. that's what i feed mine. what i do since you can't gutpack non-live food, is to cut a slit in the meat and put a couple of beans or peas (basically any vegatable). this makes their diet a bit more rounded out since in the wild their prey will have vegatable matter in their stomachs.
