Just got a hoplias, not eating yet

I got him last night, about 6 inches. Put him in a tank with a feeder fish and 5 live river shrimps, and so far he has not eaten anything. I also tried some frozen worms and stuff.

He looks healthy, nice markings, clear eyes, not a mark on him.

He was thrashing around in the bag on the way home, and he's been sporadically swimming about, he just hasn't eaten anything yet even when's it's swam right past his nose.

Is there anything to worry about that he hasn't eaten yet? Or do you think he's jsut aclimatising to his new home and will regain his appetite soon? :)

Just give it some time. If it is healthy and the water condition is right, it will start eating soon.

like splenden said, chill out :) the fish could go a month without food if it had to. it'll eat when its sufficiently acquainted with its surroundings, and that could be 2 weeks.

I was concerned about nothing, he just had his first snack after being in the tank for about 24 hours.

He suddenly turned lighter in colour and started following the fish around, then he decided against it and sat back down on the gravel. Then the current blew a couple of dead shrimps his way and he gobbled both of them at the same time. Such a fast fish, the way it strikes.

I'm afraid I don;t have a digital camera, only a celluloid SLR, otherwise I would take pics.

It's an art tank with black and white photos as the background instead of a mock 3d background :D

There you go... Those buggers won't go long without food as long as they are healthy. Greedy creatures. More like pigs than wolves.

But I would really love to see your background. The way you describe it... It sounds interesting...

ok my wolf nailed his first feeder yesterday.

He's 6.5 inches long, and he whacked out a 4 inch pangasius :D

The pang was swimming about in the violent powerhead stream, darting around, the wolf was buried in the gravel, then the wolf very slowly rised up, moved into a vertical position and WHAM struck the pang. Quick as lightning, grabbed it by the stomach, shook it a bit, then digested it tail first.

Here is a photo of it, I'm convinced it's a mac, it is dark and has vertical stripes, not the one horizontal stripe of the malabaricus.

Sorry it's so crap, it's just a phone cam, I'll post a better one soon.

also, I'm not really sure how much I should be feeding this fish.

6.5 inches, should i be feeding him say the equivalent of one small chunk of meat or one platy sized fish a day?

How much did you pay for him? And a better pic would good to see if it is a mac or not.

I'll either borrow a digital camera or I'll take one on film and have it developed and scan it.

He hasn't fully developed his appetite yet, he's eating every couple of days, he seems healthy though.

I still haven;t had a chance to take a proper photo, but here is another crappy phone pic...
