It is a good idea to rely on two smaller heaters rather than one huge one, because the huge one can get "stuck" and never turn off. If one small one gets stuck, the results are not as catastropic, because the other turns off. That way if a malfunction occurs, the tank is not heated as quickly and not as hot. It learned this the hard way last week, and nearly had a disaster. In other words, use two 150 watt heaters instead of a 300 watt, or whatever applies in your case.

IT would save your fish if one went out,the other would keep it from getting to cold,

i fried a fh by having the thermostat stick on a 300w heater on a 29g tank. it was a cold morning and when i walked into the living room the tank was literally steaming. stunk like ****. fh was cooked throughi should have ate him but gave him to the cat instead.

Possibly the worst heater tragedy ever.I had a fishroom with 2x55gal 3x29gal and assorted smaller tanks. my 2ft iguana escaped his cage and in the process of climing around managed to spin the dial on the space heater to full.Cooked every fish in the room,it was over 100f in there when i went in.I know this is terrible for a first post, but it fit the topic
