This little one is onlyh 11" TL. Currently there is one Jack dempsey and 2 convicts and a common pleco. Also, 3 snails, but there were 4 earlier today. Tankmates are just a source of food.

"LITTLE ONE"!!! what!!! mine is lil I have a 5"er that is lil. dang 11" I think that's a moster!!!
How big did you say your tank is???
11" in a 55 is a bit small man. Mines 10" and he seems a bit cramped in his 150...

He has plenty of space right now. The tank is 13" wide, and he is only 11. His larger tank is in the process of being prepared, gotta get a new filter for the big one. Fahakas can live in a 125 for life correct?

Thanks. The best part was the price.
Nice Fahaka.
If you can, upgrade him to a 125g or more as soon as possible. It would be a shame for his growth to start stunting in that tank and not reach his full size. They need the space and areas of high water flow to properly exercise and that 55g isn't going to cut it for long.

He's only in it until I can get the filtration for a larger tank.

Fahakas have been known to reach 18" which is the normal width of a 125 gallon tank. Something that is 24" wide would be much more suitable and would make the puffer a lot happier. I agree with everyone else I would get it into a bigger tank as soon as you possibly can. It's an awesome looking fahaka. I miss mine.

This is very true. Unfortunately I only have enough filtration to keep a 55 up and running right now. I will be getting a Eheim 2080 soon, and that will give me more than enough filtration, however until then, i'm stuck with a 55 and a fluval.
Is there any reason why a fahaka couldn't survive in either a 48x18x20 or a 48x24x20?

Still a bit too small for life. Something in the size region of 5x2x2 should be what you're looking for to keep him in for life. But whatever size a width of 24" is recommended so he can turn easily in the tank and doesn't feel to cramped in.

Read what you quoted. There is plenty of space for him for the time being the next tank is going to be running with 2 fluval 404s by the end of the month. There is more than an excessive amount of space for him to turn in. When he is facing straight out, he doesn't touch the front and back, he has about and 1" to 1 1/2" in front and behind.

fahakas have been known to reach 18 inches in the wild but very rare in captivity . they say normal max size in captivity is 10 to 12 inches and a 125 for one fish is plenty of room. ur tank gives him 8 or more inches to spare for turning around. u have plenty of room.:mwave: I have my 2 incher in a 10 gallon which will be going to a 75 gallon for life unless he outgrows the normal captivity size. but i would deffintly say a 55 is too small just because of its 12 inch width.

Yeah, it is to small, but I'm just waiting on my new pro 3 to go on my 135 gallon aquarium, and my pro 2 can come down to a 75.

I've seen plenty of Fahaka's that are over 10-12". 15-18" seems to be all too common given the correct tank conditions. If your Fahaka goes into a 75g for life he's never going to attain full size. Puffers are very prone to stunted growth due to being kept in incorrect tank sizes.

i dont know were u live to be seeing all these monster size puffers. all i do know is just about any website u can find say 10-12 inches in captivity and believe me there is alot of sites with the same information.

Hey pal, before you go throwing around judgements maybe you should read the first post. he is 11" in a 13" tank... UNTIL A FILTER FOR A LARGER TANK CAN GET HERE. What this means is I could house him for a week in a 75 with far inadequate filtration, leave him at the pet shop where he couldn't turn around, or wait for some college kid that is going to put him in a 20 gallon for life.... Hmmm think about that.

All I see are the same repetitive posts of why don't you have a larger tank. You guys should take the time to actually read this thread before reposting the same garbage.:irked:
Nice Fahaka you have there. Tell us when he starts tearing apart tankmates.

He actually already tore apart a JD, which was just a feeder anyway.
