Eheim is way better. I have a hand me down Magnum 350, and its gettin the shi* can due to its shi**y performance.

The 350 has the impeller inside the canister itself, so when dirt or grit gets inside the canister, it first has to grind at the impeller until the flow of water removes it, or I get pissed and rip the whole thing apart.

Eheim hands down.
Price wise there a bit pricey but well worth it.
Only canister I will buy again.

Never used them, only larger tanks I have kept were undergavel and either overside or multi layer trickles.

I just got something new. I usually use a penguin power filter, but i bought a hydor canister. It works ok, but wanted something a little better. I got a unimax pro from drsfosterandsmith.com. its pretty good suprisingly! its got a uv sterilizer in it for a decent price. it's small though. only goes to 90 gal.

If your'e on a budget, then making your own canister would be the best option. When you think about it, a canister filter's efficiency is truly measured by the amount of media it can hold. The rate of water is more of a personal preference.

I use an Eheim 2229 Wet/Dry and a 2028 pro II on my 125g and twin Fluval 303s on my 55g. I love the pro II the Wet/Dry is nothing but trouble.

The impeller shaft broke and when i replaced it i found out that it had chewed up the inside of the impeller. My new imeller is on the way hopefully that's the last problem. I'm not saying it's a bad filter It does a great job when it works and i know it's probably my fault it broke in the 1st place, but a lot of lfs' in my area don't carry the parts.

Filstar and ehiem work great for small tanks. For a big tank though, I like ocean clear or pentair aquatics with an external pump alot better.

i have both eheim professionals and filstar xp's--the noise difference i read about in reviews i find negliable---flow rate is awesome in xp's but i wonder if that comes at the cost of bypass ----it's too bad eheims are so much more cause they're almost silent ,but next purchase at more than half the price and such good flow rate ---is a xp 3,all i know is that i won't buy another fluval.i've used a eheim wet dry 2229 for 6 monthes without a flaw.i have the ocean clear 375 with uv--the filter is great i have it hooked to a 790 gph blue line in my 180--but should of researched uv's more with a 18 watt bulb the flow rate is too great to be effective---correct me if i'm wrong thks rollerboy244

I use Ocean Clears ...and they work quite well. I think Ehiem are the best and Fluvals are ok...I hate Magnums though

what about JEBO ? are they any good ? Just going from a 55 to a 90 gallon tank. Need better filtration. Inexpensive (have to watch what I buy) and I need it to be good. Are Jebo's any good? or should I just stick to my hang on the back filters. have a 660 penguin and a Whisper30. Susie :shakehead

I'm currently running five Filstar XP3s and one XP2 and have been for several years. I'm pleased with their performance thus far and you can't beat the price! I've never owned an Eheim Professional Series, but I did have one of their Ecco series (2235) and it broke on me. :(

XP is really coming out a clear winner here. Honestly, im a bit surprised. But i will def keep that in mind when its time to get a new canister. I have 4 404's and its true.. they are a pain in the butt to prime.
