I have... .its stressing my rays ..it was late at night and i didnt have a free tank. came down to the life of my rays or that stupid fish . Fish flew out the window. DOA once it hit the ground.

I know im bad.. so anyone else?

NOTE : This thread is not meant to promote cruelty to animals, just want to find out the reason why you have to kill your beloved fish.

I've intentionally disposed of like 5 perfectly healthy cichlids, mostly mbuna but also a JD. I consider fish to be better off dead than given away to live a life in someone else's 10g. Freezer treatment for all of them.

well, it could be said that i've also intentionally killed countless gouramies, tetras, barbs, guppies, etc. by feeding them to my fish.

i killed a pacu when it got too big for my 55 gallon. put him in a plastic bag, swung him around and threw him to the floor....no more flopping. it was either that or throw him in a neighbor's pond without them knowing.

Thats why you don't get fish larger then your tank can handle.

The only fish I have killed were fish that were sick or dieing beyond repair. Unless you count hatchery trout...killed lots of them when I has to.

I never killed my own fish, but my mom did, she said it was acting weird and I wasnt home at time so she decided to flush it, my poor fish. I also killed a fish when I was fishing, It was the only way I was gonna eat food.

When i was a kid i use to kill goldfish my the dozen on purpose, perfectly healthy too, i would lop off their heads, burn them on light bulbs, stick them with tooth pics, slam them on the floor and in the water as hard as i could, cut them up, cut off all their fins and watch them try to swim, and pop them like bubble rap. looking back i feel like an evil s.o.b.

In the future ( to make up for my sins) i want to get a 10' x 4' x 3' tank with a bad ass filteration system and dedicate it to goldfish.
Feeder goldfish im going to buy a bunch of feeders first, quarintine them and get em nice and fat and health then put them in the big tank and let them live out their lives in peace.

im gunna provide them top quality water, food and TLC.

PEOPLE!!! GOLDFISH GROW 2 PLUS FEET!! AND LIVE 40 YEARS!!!, TRUE MONSTERS!!!!!

the feeders you feed your monster are actually baby monsters.

Freezer treatment on Pacus and Oscars should come as no surprise..

I have seen a local fish store do the baggy-slam on these guys quite a few times. If people werent so ignorant and didn't buy pacus and oscars in groups of 4-6 for 55g tanks, we wouldnt have this problem. "Heeeee-yuck!! Look at dem dur Oscars eat and my big red pacuranas are like pirhanas! Heeyuck! Lets buy mo fish ma!"

I have just killed really sick fish which were going to die anyway. I hope when I get my big tank I only have fish which will not grow too big for it and if they do have plans for where to put it eg public aquarium. I am not sure if I want to use feeders incase I bring disese into my tank. I have also killed fish when fishing.

.

Actually, goldies top out at about a foot.

I've killed some koi on purpose. I knew they were going to die anyhow and didn't want to watch them suffer (they had bacterial gill disease once they loose their balance they're pretty well done for). Only things I've had to euth other than some feeders that had a viscious strain of finrot that was eating flesh. Clove oil is what I use.

I have had to "put fish down" the ones that were really sick...like my female red oscar... Put her in the freezer. She was very sick, lost her will to eat, and then her swim bladder went kaput...She contracted hole-in-the-head, we tried lots of methods to cure her, but she was too far gone. We did cure our male though... :)

If I kill a fish on purpose it usually because it's sick. But when I was a kid I had a Clarias and it stung me. I had that sucker cleaned and fried.

Tasty lunch.

rayman - make sure the wolf fish is the same size as the snakehead pussy :D

You'll probably buy a 6 inch wolf fish for your 3 foot snakehead.

indeed... anything less than a 2-foot wolf fish isn't anything to brag about, and just a waste of money in general, since the whole point of your doing this is to brag about it

You can only claim your snakehead is a badass if it can beat a 2 foot + wolf fish, and only once the wolf is acclimatised in the tank with a divider, and has a healthy appetite.

Check out the photo, both fish around 15 inches, go wolf :D

I agree on the inherent superiority of snakeheads as aquarium fish, but...

you didn't even record it on tape? worthless. I mean, not that it was anything to see anyway, i imagine it was just a GULP, but still :\

I read all these posts about how people have killed their fish and it makes me sad, treatments like freezing, wacking and loping of heads. If you go to any fish supply store you can get a product called finquel, it is used to keep fish calm while shipping, but if you double the recommended dose it kills the fish. Another cheaper and far easier method is to put castor oil in the water, it immediatly knockes the fish out, br sure to put a large dose in otherwise it wakes up later.

These are pain free and easy methods, come on all if we have to kill our beloved pets then lets atleast do it humanly

Grow up.

It was used as a perfectly legitimate feeder fish, and to bag on ray for that is as silly as cursing at anyone who's ever fed their oscar guppies.

You can also use clove oil, its like an anestectic and if you use more of it the fish will die a painless death.

The problem is that to many people fish are not beloved pets. They are to me and I cannot imagin doing what these people do. The picture of the SH and WF is disturbing...not because its a fish eating another fish but because of the sick minds that enjoy watching it. Aquatic bloodsport and bragging rights this is, not fishkeeping.

I believe Miles said it best...
"Heeeee-yuck!! Look at dem dur Oscars eat and my big red pacuranas are like pirhanas! Heeyuck! Lets buy mo fish ma!"

I see a similer midset here.

I dont understand whats so wrong with watching a piscivore eat another fish? It's interesting! Thats what they do in nature right? Turn on discovery channel and you'll see dolphins pummeling porpoise's to death for fun, lions eating eachothers cubs, chimpansee's hearding monkeys and bashing them to piss for food, etc, etc, etc. People watch this for fun and find it interesting. Many people feed snakes and lizards and frogs cute little furry mice and rats and bunnies and chickens, my buddy fed his boa a guinea pig once. Thats what they were sold for, food for pets and untill it's illegal to do this then there should be no problems with it. Some people eat meat and there are millions of people that find that cruel and disgusting. anyway you get my point, this is a monster fish board and monster fish eat fish. i've gone on too much.

DeLgAdO
07-30-2005, 1:27 AM
dont get me wrong my friend, its awsome watching big monster fish tear the **** outta feeders i use to feed my fish feeders when i was a kid, when i had a 12'' red eared slider my cousins and neigbors would come over just to watch my turtle slaughter the goldfish. i just dont like it anymore cause:

#1 expensive

#2 high risk of disease contamination

#3 fish become hella aggressive cause they learn to hunt and kill ( Thats why my arows gentle and not a maniac like my dads arow)

#4 not very health to eat, very fatning.

Dargath78
07-30-2005, 1:35 AM
I don't agree with some things people feed their fish but It's pointless to complain about it. It happens. Thats what this board is about. Someone asked a question, people should answer with things that contribute to the thread not say that it is wrong. Some people got mad because its a wolf fish/ or snakehead not a feeder, so what? If I was a billionare in singapore and wanted to chop up x backs or super reds and feed them to my fishes thats my buisness( unless its illegal). People griping about it on a forum is probably not going to change my mind and might make me go throw some more in just to piss people off.

Just feeders, for fish that will eat small guppies sized feeders I like neons and such. It is suprising how long some will last. I have killed a couple that got damaged or were culls but that is different.
