Hey I was thinking of getting into saltwater so I was wondering about what protein skimmer to get. I know that with filters, it's good to get a filter that's rated for higher than the tank you're using it for. What about with skimmers? I was thinking about getting a 75 gallon tank and wasnt sure if I should get the skimmer rated for a 70 gallon or the 1 rated for a 100 gallon.

Most people tend to go biger. Make sure you do your reaserch, there are a lot of crappy skimmers out there.
I've heard good things about:
Coralife Supper Skimmers
Octopuss Skimmers
ASM skimmers (top of the line)
Euro-reef Skimmers (top of the line)

Skimmers are always rated higher than they can really handle. A skimmer rated for 100 gallons would be good on a 75. If you are going to have a low bioload, and your budget is tight for the skimmer then I recommend a HOB prizm. I have one on a 32 gallon and it works very well for me. They are rated for a 90 gallon tank I believe but should do ok on a 75. If you got the cash though then there is much better skimmers to pick from.

If you want a awesome skimmer for that tank, get a cpr skimmer, awesome, refugium built in.

the protein skimmer really depends on what you want to keep(reef or fish only) and if you'll be running a sump or not.
if you are going sumpless then an aquaC remora hang on is pretty much one of the better ones other than a deltec(rolls royce of skimmers)
for a sump i'd go w/an ASM probably one of the best for the money. An ASM g2 or g3 would be good.
