Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has tried using a protein skimmer on a brackish tank. My tank is 75 gallons and salinity is at 1.012. I wasn't really sure if I should get a skimmer or not. My fish are still growing so the bioload isn't very high yet. For filtration, I am running 2 BioWheel 350s and a 250 gph pond pump/sponge filter. It seems like adequate filtration, but what do you all think? Would a protein skimmer help any?

Thanks,

Radman

well it does work on fresh, just not very well, but in brackish it should do ok. Of course it would be best in salt performance wise. I wouldn't say it is a necessity for a brackish tank, but it can't hurt either.

yea, thats what i was thinking. i got the idea for it when my water level dropped and the power head started to throw bubbles into the water, and the way my power heads are positioned, they pushed all of the bubbles to the corner of the tank and in the corner of the tank was lots of gunk so i figured if i got a skimmer, i would be able to better remove this "gunk"
