my lfs has a bunch of royal knifes, and I am serioulsy considering getting one. How would one fair with an aro, a bichir, thin bar dat and a couple of pbass? Is it really hard to get them off live feeders? HOw fast do they grow and lastly what would be a good hiding place for one. My tank now is sand bottem with 2 clay pots and a bunch of plants. I dont think that is enough cover what would be good?
Thanks

They go fine with the aros and the bichirs for certain. I have one in with mine. Are you certain they are royals? At that size clowns have stripes.

get a picture. They could be regular clown knifes. Juvie clowns have stripes and are often mistaken for royals.

turns out that's what happened to me...I ask my lfs if they'd order me a royal. When it came in it had the most beautiful stripes of any clown I'd ever seen...now here I am 6 months later and it turns out they sold me a clown...

Im gonna get one either way, Ive always wanted a clown or royal. If they are royals that is a plus.

yeah...I'm gonna go back to the store to see if they'll actually get me a real legit royal...
then if it's a yes I'm gonna see if they'll put part of what they charged me last time for the damn clown and apply it to the cost of the true royal...

It should get along with all of those. No problem getting them off live food. My clown and rolay both eat pellets, clams, shrimp, whatever.

my clown was never on feeders so it was real easy to feed him. he loves bloodworms and pellets, thats all he will eat, wont touch anything else. as far as hiding spots throw some pvc pipe or fittings in the tank.

Are the spots in line with eachother front to back? Or are they all over the body?

I just picked one up about a week ago, he eats crayfish tails, shrimp and krill. I'll try and get a pic, as he is always hiding except when hungry.

Pretty quick when young. Mine grew from 3" to about a foot in 4-5 months

Go back and rip her a new one. Well, be nice about it and tell her you want your money back on the difference between the cost of a royal and the cost of a clown. (RK Price - CK Price = Your Money.)
My closest lfs did the same thing to me. They refuse to believe that they're wrong and that the fish they sold me was in deed a clown and not a royal. They said to just give him more time...He's about 5" and lookin' like a clown. Rally's shown me pics of royals when they're small...Anyways, enough of my ranting and raving...
Long and short of it is that I'd ask for some of my money back...What's the worst that can happen?

Yea...I will do that. And the thing is I went into a different lfs that is a little farther away and they had foot long royals for 30.

That's not bad IMO...There's a store in Phoenix that's sellin' ones a little larger than that for $90...
