View Full Version : Always have scissors handy when netting out stingrays

They have barbs that easily get tangled in the net. Once it does, its almost impossible to untangle it. Solution is to just cut out the part of the net thats stuck to the stinger.

Or a safer way would be to coax the ray in a large bag ( trash bag) and when the ra is in, dump out the excess water and lift the bag out. Easy and stress free for the ray =)

Careful, I have heard of incidents when the rays sting through the bag.

My pet store days taught me a neat trick for smaller rays - get a large specimen container and drill holes throughout. Coax the ray in with the net, and lift the ray out, and pour him into whatever container you wish. Another thing for bigger rays was plastic baskets, put in a little food, wait, and lift ray out with basket. Worked like a charm when they would go in there.

just use big nets to catch big rays, dont think need any other devices..
