You'd have a better chance of eradicating snails with loaches. Paretroplus species are extremely rare, expensive, and hard to find in the hobby. Paretroplus menarambo is thought to be extinct in the wild.

Paretroplus are from Madagascar and some species, e.g., menarambo, maculatus, etc., are critically endangered or even extinct in the wild. They do occur in FW and venture into brackish waters. You can get lots of info on this interesting genus and other Madagascan cichlids at the Cichlid Room Companion (Paretroplus search terms displayed):

http://search.freefind.com/find.html?id=8829391&pid=r&mode=ALL&query=paretroplus

Also, fishpost.com has an interesting discussion regarding the conservation efforts for Madagascan, aka Malagasy, cichlids:

http://www.fishpost.com/cichlids/madagascar.html

I hope this helps. I'm a Madagascan cichlid fan and current keep Paretroplus maculatus and Paratiliapia sp. large spot (aka bleekeri).

Wow! That's a big collection! I've always wanted some P. lamena/nourissati, but I've heard they are very aggressive!

My Paretroplus maculatus are around 6-7" and are housed in a 100 gallon tank w/ a 7" male Paratilapia sp. large spot and a bunch of non-Malagasy fish (datnoids, bichirs, and Synodontis mostly). I also have a 9" male P. sp. large spot in a 180 gallon w/ dats and bichirs. My 360 gallon used to house two large P. maculatus and P. sp. small spots but they were killed by a rampant dorado. :(

I'll try to post some pics, but I'm a horrible photographer.

dont worry your photography skills cant possibly be as bad as mine :)

So your Bleekeri worked out fine with the datnoids? I plan on keeping mine with my datnoid (seeing as how they are getting along fine right now) and was considering getting a polypterus delhezi when I get a larger tank. I would love to see pictures of yours! I had a real bad problem with my male he killed anything and everything that was in his tank, the female on the other hand seems to get along fine with others.
