Mantis shrimp are an awesome predator! I have a beautiful 10in Peacock Mantis. She will not accept food from anyone other than me. She knows who i am and gets very excited and comes to greet me when i look into her tank.

She only feeds from you because they can recognize people even better than we can. Their eyes are so complex that their vision is one of the best in the world of any creature. Even if they loose an eye they can still see in biocular vision because each eye is like two.

Its a smasher. I'm hoping to get hold of some perspex to biuld a tank with, but untill then, its being kept in a plastic 75ltr tub, running an undergravel filter, two power heads and cured live rock.

They have very good eye sight! They can see in 3-D. Which is awesome! Especially for an U/W predator!

As soon as i get a pic I'll put it on here. I feed it krill on mon & wed. squid on tues & thurs. and shark formula on fri & sun. She LOVES the shark formula! And a treat of goldfish or ghost shrimp on sundays. Its in a 50 breeder right now with 3/4 glass. It is by far one of my favorite pets! I am almost brave enough to hand feed her. but then again... I like all my fingers the way they are!:D

3/4 of an inch glass seems weak for a 10" mantis

She has been in there for 2 years with no problem. A buddy of mine kept his in a 50 breeder its whole life! I see no problem with keeping it in a glass tank. esp 3/4in. I bought in from the LFS i work at in MI. she was around 5.5 in when i bought it. no doubt she could shatter the tank, however she doesnt smash food when its near the glass, she waits for it to come to her cave, or when its near the rocks.
