Loving it! This is one of my dream Crenicichla to be honest with you. One day I'll have some. . . .

Looking great over the dark substrate. They seem to have slightly different coloration, different locality than Eds?

Thanks Jer!
Not usually a fan of black substrate, but I got a great deal on Estes black gravel...and thus have plenty for all my current projects :D

These were collected in the headwaters of the Rio Cauriem, the type locality for the species. I am unsure where Ed's were collected, but I think he has some from a couple different locality points.

nice lookin pike cichlid, how big is he/she?

Thank you. There are 2 pairs. Smallest is almost 4" and the biggest is about 5.5" or so.

Here is a good thing to NOT DO........overfeed (look at belly). Overfeeding these fish is a good way to throw $250.00 down the toilet. Thankfully he is ok. Walking on thin ice there.....yikes!! Accidents happen, but man I was sweating!!!

I think the differences are just a combination of age/size and recently imported vs "settled in". I have some from the upper Rio Cuareim and Arroyo de la Invernada, which is a headwater tributary to the Cuareim (the way-upper Cuareim I guess).
