How many of these vids need to be posted? You should include the posting of these videos under the "What makes MFK great" thread. They detract from the message of the hobby.

You know, I don't take it too serious. When I post and I'm just sitting here mellow it may come across as that. I started to post last night and went back and erased it because I took a step back and said " You know....I really don't care". Then I read what Redtail_Watcher posted when he was away from "caring" for his ray. So I guess I do care or I wouldn't post.

I enjoy reading about everyones fish and sharing ideas on the boards. It really doesn't bother me either that someone threw a mouse to their pirahna or sankehead or whatever. The thing that bugs me is that someone video taped it, which to me feeds the stereotype of the fish we keep to the general public. And then, people on the board post it as Sweet and Awesome and Cool, when it's not any of those.

Posting a video of a Bluegill slowly getting ripped apart in a tank or a mouse struggling on the surface with no means of escape until he gets ripped apart is not the "Best video ever." It caters to a 15 year mind set of how animals should be treated. It also propagates the behaviour for others to follow. I said before, we have all owned fish that can kill or maim mammals or fish larger than themselves.

I'm done. I would like to think there are others who share this view. My opinions are just that, and I appreciate the opportunity to express them.

i used to be a fan of feeding mice to my fish. my silver aro loves them. he could take down a full size adult mouse or any smaller rat even. i don't do it anymore tho, water conditions were horrible after feedings. i planned on doing it with my piranhas aswell but maybe ill try some ugly pinkies jus so there's no fuzz floating around.

nice vid tho. piranhas rock.

Those are some beautiful RBP and a very nice setup! I cant comment on the mouse as that doesnt bother me having snakes for years and having to feed mice, rats ect...also when keeping predatory fish it is no different watching other fish getting oblitorated. As for cruel.....????? you should go to a slaughterhouse and watch how the animals are dispatched for your hamburgers, steak ect....let me tell you its not a fast and painless process...but thats all fine because you dont see it. If it disturbs you so much and you think it cruel to see a mouse get ripped apart then dont watch it...but dont cry about it as you elicit the death and suffering of much more by being a predator yourself and having dinner everyday;)

Yeah true but like me and a few others we did not watch it it was more commenting on how they say this is the best video or an awsome video of a fish being eaten alive!... I dont know for some its a touchy subject for others not so... we were all desensitzed to certain things at one point in time seeing something being killed as opppsed to not seeing it are completely different in my eyes

If you see my earlier post up there, you can see that i dont care too much about mice ripped apart by smaller fish . I just didnt know why you have to include this comment :

Like you said, my opinions are just that , and i also appreciate the opportunity to express them . ;)

I agree. The comment was not necessary. The comment was aimed at the fact that normally these vids are posted by a younger crowd that I mentioned in my post. I agree with this 100%....

If you don't want to watch this and don't find this aspect of nature interesting, than don't click on this thread and watch the video....IT'S THAT SIMPLE FOLKS :screwy:

In nature, this kind of thing occurs all the time...and don't forget, in order for any of us to feed our pets, some sort of animal somewhere gave up its life so we can do so....

What difference does it make if it was a mouse giving up its life or the cow that gave up its life for your beefheart, or the fish that had just as awful of a death to make up the pellets you feed your fish?

I don't blame anyone for not wanting to watch this kind of thing. It's easier to just think meat shows up on our dinner plates and in our pet food magically and nothing dies in the process.

Just my $.02

Are you saying you've seen a glass box full of piranha in the wild? :screwy: ;) :j/k:

If it's ok to simulate a small scale environmet of the fish's habitat, then what's wrong with simulating some of the food oportunities these fish would inevitably encounter at some point?

Are you saying it's more "natural" for these piranha to eat prepared fish pellets and beefheart? :grinno:

Btw, I really do respect yours (and the others) opinion rallysman .... I guess some of us just have a different perspective... :)

I personally don't have a problem with this vid, alot of you I understand don't want to watch but why gripe about others like to see? have you ever had your friends over to watch you feed live food to your monsters? what differnce is it that or video taping and posting for more to see? Not everyone has the chance to see this themselfs and they don't show this on the nature shows too often so why not? this is life. if you want to watch go for it if not don't.

I own snakes, predatory fish, and mamals. But I still always feel bad for the mouse, sounds kinda crazy but it's my feeling. They do kill it pretty quickly, so it doesn't suffer long. I see nothing wrong with this post , everyone can sound off either way. Nothing like a good debate.

It's funny...I just saw a tread about someone wanting to put Pbass with his RBP and everyone is like, "No! Why would you do that?!" It's kind of ridiculous to me how it's "ok" to feed piranhas Bluegills and small mammals, but Heaven fobids that you feed it a Cichla! He obviously knows the risk, but everyone was getting on his case for the idea that they might be able to co-exist.

It's like...if someone threw a live chicken in a pool of piranhas, it's awsome. But feed that same pool an Arowana...people will get bent out of shape :screwy:

P-bass and P's do co exist in the wild It might be worth a shot with a big enough tank and well feed fish

It is a mouse people there are billions of them they eat garbage and reproduce faster than lightning. If I saw one right now I would smash it with the heaviest object I could find.

Mammals would be part of a P's diet in the wild just much bigger rodents which I am sure you would all find very cute and feel bad for ;)

Whether it is a mouse or fish, live or dead, we all kill things to feed our fish.
Whether people think this is wrong or cool doesn't matter either.
I believe the most important point is the perception of fishkeepers to the non fishkeeping public, not a good public image.
